Default Test Pipes on Stock exhuast

Well i was wondering is that putting test pipes on a stock exhuast would be a good idea or not? I looked a little bit to see if there was a thread on it but i didnt see any(or maybe i missed it). I see a couple of youtube videos with people doing this and i was wondering if it was a good idea to do this? Do you see any good gains comeing from this set up? Just right now im short on money and i just want to get a different sound out of the exhuast and was wondering if i should just save up for a cat-back or i can do the test pipes for now.

I did that prior to buying my HKS Exhaust. Bought Fast Intentions resonated TP's, basically it made the stock sound louder, sounded really good. There are some performance gains, they quote 9hp/10tq, dunno if its true on stock exhaust.

Doit, you'll like it.

refer to my sig, if you want to hear what megan racing resonated TPs + popcharger sounds like. That was just 2 days after installing them though, right now i think the sound is better, i hear no rasp at all.

I ditched my exhaust and went back to stock just with Megan Racing Resonated test pipes and topspeed y-pipe. It sound almost stock but its a little louder. Theres no rasp whatsoever, the performance is still the same as having a complete exhaust only its more stealthy. People always do a double take when they hear it and ask whats done to it. Its just a little louder to give it some attention.

By far the best combo ive had on my car since its birth.

The y-pipe is the most important part of the exhaust also.

Just switched back to my cat-back stock exhaust and put it on with a set of resonated test pipes.

Very quiet, no rasp, yet slightly louder than with stock cats.

However, there is a very slight smell of gasoline if you leave the engine running and get out of the car.

The testpipes I used was from eBay and the welding seemed to be of a high quality.

Also, I have not experienced any CEL- I am driving an '03.

so apparently going with a stock cat-back with test pipes seems to be a good way to go if your on a budget and wanna get a differently sound with gain for a good price. Second question to ask is what are the names of resonated test pips companys. So that i can choose which ones i want to go with and which one would you guys recommend in quality and price. O another quick question kidna off topic(maybe) does getting a after market y-pipe really make any big differ and if so what are some good things about it.

This is what I bought:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NISSAN-350Z-Z...2em118Q2el1247

I imagine you can get something similar there.

In general, bolt-ons do very little for the Z unless you're FI.

go for it, cheap mod with good gains & sound improvement, just make sure they are resonated.

If you have a plan and a budget then test pipes first is OK.

ya thats him. I used to have my car running stock exhaust with no cats, it sounded real nice. I think i might be going back to stock exhaust with testpipes and an aftermarket y pipe.

A test pipe is an empty piece of pipe. The exception is the resonated test pipe. You may notice a difference between a non-resonated versus resonated pipe. If so I don't know which you would prefer.
