Default Keep the popcharger? Opinions please.

I know this should be in the Intake/Exhaust subforum, but I'm simply looking for opinions, and I assumed this would be the best place to get as many opinions as possible. So mods, if it's alright, I'd like to ask you to keep this thread here unless you really insist on moving it.

Onto the thread material...

So I ended up moving from my stock 03 airbox to the Popcharger.
I will admit, I wasn't looking for significant gains. I was more looking for something that looked neat, and the loss or gain of ~2whp was really not of my concern.

However, I recently changed from the stock front bumper to the Nismo V2 with the intake vent that directs incoming air from the bumper's opening up to the intake hole.

Will this increase of incoming air keep the heatsoak on the Popcharger from being an issue? Or should I go back to the stock intake?

I know the popcharger has heatsoak issues, but the intake ducting could prove to lead more cool air up to the filter and essentially cooling off the filter and areas, ultimately bringing the ambient temperature down.

With this in mind, is it worth going back to the stock airbox? Or will the extra incoming cool air give me the same results with the popcharger, if not better, than the stock airbox being reinstalled?

Opinions, criticisms, and simple input is very much appreciated.

Thank you.

Some pics of the stuff in case anyone needs a clearer picture of what I'm talking about. You can see I've enjoyed the extra eye-candy the popcharger includes, so I changed the look of the heatshield .
The picture of the V2 intake duct is next.

Here's the ducting. Edging may look jagged, due to photobucket's resizing SUCKing

i say keep it. Well kinda lol. Im working on sumthing now that will be up shortly. Im gonna trade out my jwt filter with either a Apexi or the R2c intakes(w.e there called) and im gonna heat wrap the z tube or trade it out with a complete R2c intake(looks good imo) And use the stock box. Like im gonna cut a whole in it and see if it helps for heat soak. If u get what im saying?

Yeah I know what you're saying.

Keep me informed!

I've been throwing the idea of getting the Seibon TS style hood to help dissipate heat from the engine bay.

Does the bottom most vent sit directly above the filter?
From the picture in my head... it'd sit right in front the vent. I''ll do some searching.

Just keep it and add more stuff to the bay.

There are a few things I can still do to mine but I already went overboard, since I never had intentions of doing anything under the hood except for the PC'er. Thought to myself, hey the polished tube would look good with the filter and that led to a zillion other things. Once I started, I couldn't stop adding stuff.

I sold my PC to Ghost a while back. I'll be dynoing the Typhoon pretty soon. I won't start any thread about it but I'll give you the dyno sheet if you'd like to see it.

Greg, sure post the dyno sheet. Can you post up one from the PC setup to compare?

Thanks Val. I still have the stock airbox, just would have to clean out the cobwebs.

Chad68 - what is that tube going into the intake hole in the front shroud? Same kinda intake duct deal as the Nismo V2 one?

Throw the popcharger away, and get a '06 stock intake. Then throw the '03 intake away.

I don't want to spend money

The thing is... With the extra incoming air, would it dissipate the heat enough to make no difference between the stock airbox and the popcharger?

What about going with the '06 intake and then using a drop-in filter?

I have my stock 03 airbox and I have a basically new K&N filter with about 150 miles on it.

I don't want to spend money to buy an 06 airbox. At least not now...

I'm basically pondering if with the extra air coming in, the heatsoak wouldn't be an issue and there wouldn't be any difference going back to any airbox.

That ducting in my pic runs from where you see it to behind the grill (opening aimed to force air into tube at speed), to allow SOME outside air to get to the filter. It's only 2" dia. ducting. 3" would be better if I can find some I like. I paid less than 4 bucks for the aluminum ducting, so if it helps get more outside air to the filter cool, if not at least I didn't have to spend 85 bucks for that heavy plastic intake thing some places sell that has a similar dia.

Someday I might add a scoop to put behind the grill that attaches to the tubing, to gather and push more air though the ducting.

I have an bumper (titek style non carbon) air duct that I decided not to mount and I was going to attach the ducting to the bumper duct, so it would have a direct shot to the filter, instead of having to jump the gap. So instead I just ran the ducting behind the grill.

I would definitely not go through trouble experimenting with the stock airbox with the k&n and all that crap from different years for just a few nominal gains. Keep the pop charger. Or, put the stock back on and see if you can tell the very small difference.

Will there even be a difference?

I like the slight hiss from the popcharger. It makes me feel better about myself
