Default Motordyne XYZ and Shockwave Review!

Ordered a Motordyne XYZ Y-Pipe and Shockwave exhaust from Riverside last monday, through paypal with the cashback from Microsoft. Received it friday and got it installed on saturday!

First thing I noticed pulling it out of the box was how great the products looked. In the box came all the gaskets and hardware needed to hook it up.

The install went mostly smooth. Getting the stock muffler off without ramming it into the bumper was a bit of a pain but otherwise, not really a big deal.

The only problem, or downside, to the exhaust was the fact that where the Shockwave and Resonator on the XYZ meet, a weld was just a little too thick to let one of the included nuts sit flat. Nothing a slightly smaller nut couldn't solve. Aside from that everything fit perfectly.

As for the sound, its amazing. I still have cats, and the Resonator on the XYZ pipe. It sounds very mean, not ricey at all. Nice deep aggressive sound. Definitely loud, but not "HOLY CRAP" loud or anything. Doesn't drone, and is actually pretty quiet while crusing. I would say this exhaust is probably in the top three best-sounding exhaust I've ever heard on a V6.

As for the performance, I have a pretty crappy butt dyno. It seems faster, but its also been a little cooler since the last time I drove it much, so *shrug*. Of course, we all know that louder = faster. Its science.

As for the looks, I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the diffuser, but I've always been a function over form kind of guy. It doesn't look bad, but not great. Its actually a little hard to tell its a cone shape from behind the car anyway.

Now I just need to figure out what to do about the fact that I have a single shot on a double shot bumper. Anyone know of any stock looking aftermarket bumpers that are single shot, or can I roll the whole center section easily (I know nothing about body work, sorry if that sounds stupid, haha)

You can fold the center section of the rear bumper up. There is a big thread about it somewhere here.

Awesome, will see if I can find it. Hopefully the forum search gods will accept my offering of this valuable post and grant me good results.

So... I added non-resonated test pipes.

Yeah, this is no longer true.

I think the car is louder than my friends 11 second Stealth that runs an open down pipe. Not kidding. Sub-3000rpm it sounds nice and smooth, but above that, its seriously OMGWTFBBQ loud. It sounds good, but **** its LOUD.

Also, it drones pretty bad between about 2200-2700 rpm :-/. Might swap to some resonated pipes after a while, we'll see.

Oh, and I got the tuck mod done, thanks a ton Pikes. Will post pics soon, hopefully.

Well Tony will have the new tail section out in the next few days. I will have it on my car, i have his full system , test pipes and headers. The same results, f-ing loud, but god dam it sounds great. Once the new rear section is installed, i'll swap out between the defuser and muffler (one v band clamp) when i go to track events.

Ya, I would definitely recommend resonated-TP's. I have them along with my HKS Hi-Power and it sounds amazing, plus it eliminates virtually all rasp. I can't imagine how loud the Shockwave is!!!!!

Post pics if you can (and he doesn't mind, if you're doing a "beta test"). Also, know what he's going to charge for just the tail section?

If sure the pics will be out in a couple days, pics on the car will be posted as soon as it gets to Vegas. No idea on price yet, i'm sure that will be available from him in a few days.
