Cleaning out cat or????
Hey guys , i have a 3" cat back with a aftermarket muffler ... it has a nice sound and has good performance but i want it louder! .. i dont want to buy a new muffler ... if i cleaned out my cat would it make it sound louder? would i hurt anything? ... or should i just buy a performance cat? .. i wwant a nice low sound
If you remove the substrate from your cats you will have an empty pipe, otherwise known as test pipe..
Prepare for the sound to be unleashed. You will be exposed to drone, rasp, and the extent of exhaust noise will increase two fold..
Depending on your year model Z, you might also trigger a CEL..
With all that you will gain only a marginal amount of horsepower. Nothing you will be able to feel, but definitely something you will be able to hear..

If you really want to punch out the cats, then buy a set of test pipes.
But HFC's give you just about the same power and will give you a more aggressive exhaust tone without the characteristic rasp.
