I recently got a cai for xmas but i acctually wanted a short ram intake so I could get the varis scoop, can i just not use the second half of the piping when it connects to the maf sensor and just connect the filter to it?

yup...got a injen and and thats what i do..dont have a bypass valve so kinda worried about rolling around with a cold air...

 

Better off as a CAI than converting to a short ram without a heat shield.
