Help Clarify, What is the best exhaust?
there is no best .. each has its own benefits.. people on these boards will rant and rave about the borla, but honestly i have not been impressed with it.
the gains are not what they were advertised by borla (20hp)
i cant tell the difference between the borla and stock sound..
and apparently the fitment isnt that great.. people are having to some of the pieces welded to keep it from rattling and popping..
the borla is one of the least expensive exhuasts though
it really depends on what u plan to do with your car and how much you want to spend.. ive heard some Titanium JDM exhaust that sound amazing, but you will pay for the amazing part $$.

I agree with toykilla. Nissan did a great job with the intake and the exhaust. Aftermarket exhaust mfgs are having a difficult time producing a systems that is better than stock, some of them actually lost HP and/or torque. I am waiting to see the results from the sports Z magazine's exhaust system shoot out before I buy anything, if I buy anything.
I don't track my car so I really don't care about another 5 -10 hp for $600 - $1200. I am not into buying bolt ons to impress my friends who are into the "cool factor". I ask myself, whats the point of spending that money on the Z that is already healthy enough and reliable. Are you really going to notice 5 hp? I would rather spend the money on Baja fishing trips, surfing in Hawaii, or exploring Costa Rica.
Personally I think that putting a K&N filter in the stock air box is as good as, or better than any after market CAI. If you like the cool sound an aftermarket CAI or exhaust makes, then go fo it, but don't expect any real HP gains.

I think that at this point any exhaust is only going to give you minimal gains. The greatest benefit will be the change in the sound of the exhaust. Now I am only speaking about a stock engine. Once you add something like a blower, any of the true dual systems should easily out perform the factory exhaust. Custom system can be good as long as the system uses mandrel bends and good mufflers/resonators ... My 0.02.
I would have to disagreed, I have the Australian newly developed HiTech catback system which is developing an extra 22rwhp (another forum member got 24.5rwhp) and a good increase in torque in the mid range, so a well designed system can extract more hp and lose weight as well as sound better. It has been done!!!
Check the Australian forum. Ti system in the pipeline.

Does the Australian 350z have the same stats as the US release out of the box?

The Australian 350z comes std at 207kw while the US 350z is 214kw... Taking that into account zzz-35 still got a good 10kw gain.
The only other difference would be in the ECU settings.... but the exhaust has zip to do with that.
I'm keen myself to see someone in the US try it on and see what happens.

The fall issue of Sport Z goes out in the mail today. See pages 38 to 41. USPS excuse for slow delivery this issue will be the "holiday" --- Bet on it!
The Fall 2003 issue is now a back issue and will be available as soon as the truck delivers to the Sport Z warehouse [Art's house].
