Default Heat Shield for aftermarket exhaust components

My dad was concerned about this when we were installing a Borla yesterday.

The factory Y-pipe, Cats, and Headers utilize a heat shield, but none of the aftermarket pieces include such heat shields.

Will a heat issue arise at a later time?

I was thinking that if this was indeed a problem, then we could fix it by using header-wrap and wrapping those components in question.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Victor

Absolutley wrap it. I would not install headers without wrapping them in such a tight engine bay. It is good to keep the heat in the pipes anyways. Normally you would do this prior to install as there is almost no way to do it cleanly when they are on the car.

So I should wrap the pieces of the Borla that replaced the Y-pipes? Same for the Cat-bypass pipes?

What about having the headers ceramic coated to keep temps down?

You can but I think you would just be wasting money on anything that is not under the hood. I think you will save a lot in the long run by saving all the tubes and wires from the heat than you will gain power but if you have the time and the money go for it. Just remember that the wrap will eventually get wet enough and begin to rot under the vehicle and you will have to reapply. Typically under the hood will not get splashed or run through puddles. Personally, my Z never sees rain.

As far as coating the headers, it really helps for longevity but does not curb temps nearly as much as good header wrap. It is good to prevent rusting (or at least prolong the effects).
