I posted up some pics of my car on a local forum and everyone keeps asking about the small canisters coming off the main canister on my exhaust. Its a X02 (replica HKS) i remember reading something about their purpose but i keep searching and i can not find it. Can some one give me a quick explanation?

 

they're helmholtz resonators, they're only for improving the sound/looks, do nothing for performance.

 

I just cut mine off yesterday and welded it up. The one burnt out. Im still getting just a little rasp from somewhere but its better since I cut them off.
