Default K&N or Blitz

i have decided not to get the injen cai anymore and instead leave the stock intake as is and just change the air filter, as i am eventually gonna get a plenum. so now i have to decide what kind of air filter to get.

i've narrowed down my choices to 2: the K&N or the Blitz. I've heard of problems with the K&N due to excessive oil and fitment problems from previous threads. So I was wondering if anyone had experience with the Blitz air filter?? which air filter who you recommend and why?? thanks in advance for all your help.

Default K&N

I have had good luck with K&N filters in a variety of vehicles......from cars to quads......

They have been around a long time, which says something in itself, and have a very good reputation...

The K&N cleaner and oil are readily available from many auto parts houses.

So........get the BLITZ!

Just kidding....

Go with the K&N......

K&N. 24k miles, no problems. Probably gained a pony or two and sounded better after installation.

I have used K&N drop-in filterin the past. I did have a little fitment problem that required trimming the plastic edges.

K & N

I have one in my 2000 Tundra with 50,000 miles and no probs. I have cleaned and re-oiled it myself.

I also have one in the Z with no probs at 6000 miles.

The only thing is go lightly on the oil when you clean it. It comes with the right amount on it so it's only and issue when you clean it. It does change the sound a little. Opens up a little. There are some dyno's that show up to a couple of HP gain.

And if you put the K&N sticker that comes with the filter on your back bumper, you can gain another couple additional hp's.

Don't forget the black spacer thing that comes with the K&N filter. I didn't know about it the first time I put it in. CMJ told me about it, lucky I still had the box. It sticks on top of the filter to help it seal better

I have BLI/TZ filter. It works great, plus it's a dry filter and don't have to wash and oil it. I heard that k&n filters, with there oil treatment gets into the intake.

Hehe. That huge Nismo sticker across the side of the Z in your avatar must produce at least 15.

I've tried K&N v Blitz on a turbo vehicle and the Blitz made twice as much power at the wheels on my dyno than the K&N. In fact, it outflowed any other intake I have ever tried. I say go for the Blitz.

If the Blitz makes twice as much as the K&N that great, but.....

Do we know how well it filters?

For me, a good filter is only good if it also filters as well as stock (or darned close). I like to keep my engines past 100K miles.

Are there any filtration stats on the Blits filters?

I too decided to go with a drop in filter for now because I'm probably going to go with some sort of FI come spring. I was leaning towards K&N but after some research and a post that I read on one of the many 350z boards I'm now getting a Green Performance Air filter. The person writing the post attended a 350Z Mod show which had several of the big names there to show there products. Anyway Green Air Filters had a display setup which showed the amount of air flow through several different filters including K&N and it's own Green filter. The Green filter way out performed all the other filters when it came to pure air flow....which in our terms means performance. I then did some research on my own and Green had been making racing air filters long before they even decided to get into the street market. I'll be installing mine in a few days so I'll let you know what I think.

anyone heard that the drop in K&N actually might reduce HP? I read on a forum that a person dynoed the K&N at a lower HP than the stock filter. I will search to see if I can find it.

My opinion from experience with the K&N drop in is that it basically provides nothing over the OEM filter. You basically buy it, so you never have to buy another "throw away" paper filter. I think any gains felt are strictly psychologicaly because you just spent $35-$50 for a drop in filter. Any sound difference would be VERY MINIMAL. I say this after installing one and feeling/hearing absolutely no difference from the OEM filter.

I dunno about that. Thats like saying turning on your radio or wearing a darker color shirt makes more or less power. hmmmm. Come on, dynos vary......

I doubt the filter will make any power, I have a K&N & it sure as hell doesn't feel any different other than the sound.

With that said, I think K&N is the one to get (if anything)
