Default NISMO Intake worth it?

Hey I got an 04 Z.
I found a local guy selling a Nismo Intake for $100.

Is there any sound difference between that and my stock?
And is this mod worth it, or should I go with like a JWT Pop Charger
or other brand (AEM/Injen/etc,.) CAI?

Any input would be appreciated.

For $100, yeah it is. Because you can easily sell it for the same price or more if you don't like it.

Honestly though, an OEM airbox out of a 2006 Z will prob give you more gains. It's got no bling, or extra noise, but it all depends on what you are trying to achieve.

What do you mean by "better"? Quality, looks, or performance?? Search around there are a MILLION posts about intakes. And most of the in depth ones, pouint back to the OEM airbox for best effienciency and performance at all tempratures.

IMO the Nismo is better in comparison to the poopcharger, simply because the poopcharger isn't a true cold air intake. BUT the Nismo has alot of extra piping to suck the air through. Plus it's metal, which retains heat significantly more then the plastic OEM intake tube. So i'd imagine whatever gains you may get are negated by the distance it has to travel, and they metal intake piping after the engine heats it up.

My two cents.

If you're looking at value for $100, then yes. But in reality, Nismo intake is known for power loss.

Better quality/performance than the stock 04 box is what I meant by "better".

Yeah, I'm doing some research now.

I found the nismo intake for 100 (can probably drop it down to 75-90 ish) like I said earlier, I haven't made a final decision yet, but am going to look at it this weekend.

Then I found "poopcharger" for $93 online (+ s/h) with a discount code.

So you guys honestly think the 06 stock box is pretty good? I'm not going for looks, just want best quality & performance for a DD. I'll try look for one. Is there a big difference between the 04 and 06 stock boxes?

Thanks for the help. I may still end up buying the Nismo as I've been told by many that its a steal at that price, so if I don't like it I could always sell it in the future

Read around. Yeah the 2006 factory airbox is the best bang for the buck, if you are solely looking for performance. If you go out to your car and look at your factory box, it's obvious quickly that it's a very well engineered part. It is a straight through design with almost no curves, made of plastic so as not to retain heat easily, and has an oversized panel filter. Plus it's completely sealed off from the engine compartment, so it's basically a cold air intake from the factory. In a naturally aspirated setup, you will never out flow the factory filter, so you don't even need to buy the Nismo drop in, that's just a better alternative then the crappy K&N drop in that filters like crap, and can foul your MAF sensor with oil.

I'm running a Stillen stage 4 SC which is the only type of forced intuction out there for the Z that still allows you to use the factory air box, and i noticed a significant improvement when i went from my poopcharger back to the factory airbox. And if i'm not outflowing the factory filter with a blower spinning over 12,000 RPMS, then you definatly aren't gonna out flow it.

The reason people choose the 2006 box, is because it has a velocity stack inside. That's what the earliers factory airboxes are lacking. This causes the air to flow a little faster, and straighter. There's probably not a huge difference between the non 2006 boxes and this. But every little bit counts. And between that and not sucking in underhood air, it's a big improvement over other intakes.

I agree. Go for the Nismo intake. That's a very good price. Give it a try, see what you think. Just take good care of it and you can always re-sell it. And if you do decide to get a popcharger, buy it off of here. You can usually get them for $60 ish shipped.

You may consider applying your money towards a plenum spacer instead. You'd see more gains with that then an intake.

Hey man if you are looking at the one posted locally on craigslist you need to look closer because it is just the tube and nothing else (no filter, hardware or clamps)

FYI

Edit: found some wheels for you though http://sacramento.craigslist.org/pts/1115409955.html

also saw yours for sale

Considering the price is pretty low for the rims too, i'd be weary. These may be beat up, or "hot"!! lol
