Default people with resonated test pipes click here please

Hello all
Im curious about resonated test pipes about the raspyness and the apparent smell of fumes, thinking of picking up a intensepower exhaust,y pipe and resonated test pipes,(based off nismo exhaust)and I just wanted to see if you could really REALLY smell the gas with them if your standing outside,oh and the rasp?

I definitely smell the fumes with my resonated test pipes. Honestly it's not that bad or maybe I just got used to it.

Rasp, yes.
Drone, yes.
Fume, yes.

Rasp and drone can be mellowed down if you wrap them. Also, if you do get some TP, try to get the ones with the brackets, mine didn't come with ones but i wish they did.

This is how i wrapped mine. I'll be wrapping my XYZpipe as well as headers shortly.

This is the OE bracket that bolts on to the Cats.

Maybe I will just stick to the y pipe and the exhaust, but wrapping them looks like a great idea, did it rid away most of the noise with it?

Probably cut down the rasp by 3/4 and the droning by 1/2. Hoping wrapping the rest will help. Keeping my fingers crossed.

it's more like a metalic zip tie. I didn't even know these existed until i saw it at the car part shop.

1. anyone who says they can't smell the exhaust with any test pipe, resonated or non, is lying - they absolutely make the car, and anyone around it, stink. I've had some on for nearly 2 years, I can't wait to get rid of them. Going with some nice low cell cat(s) when I do new headers

2. they are nearly as loud as non resonated - wrapping will help some, but it's also a function of the rest of the system as well.

3. brackets are not necessary...what is necessary are flanges that line up perfectly. If they don't, then a bracket will help things immensely.

Agreed. Car was loud with Resonated Test Pipes, but was even louder with the new Headers, hence the reason I'm hoping wrapping the rest will help. I've only tried resonated Test Pipes and it was incredibly loud in the cabin.

Adam I'd like to hear what cats you plan to run. I'm about to post another thread about this but briefly -- I've burned up Crawford HFCs AND Berk metallic HFCs, in about 12 months of N/A street & track use. So I always end up with (effectively) test pipes anyway.

I'm going to go to a traditional 100 cell metal race cat - hopefully just 1, but we'll see when we're at that point
