Default HR Y Pipe to 03/350 for low end torque!

Has anyone on this forum heard of the HR Y-pipe advantage for us early 350 owners? I know most of us are always searching for more HP on the upper R's but in pursuing this goal we need to sacrifice a little low end torque. Lurking on the G35 forum, someone suggested the use of a 07/08 Y-pipe on a earlier G35 to wake up the low end torque. I'm here to attest to this mod just done on my car. Although, I like spirited driving most of my driving is around town and I've got to say this works! Launches are effortless now than ever with noticeable torque at lower rpm's. It brings civility to in town driving, and it just seems to make the torque much more linear. It's a simple bolt on R/R after removing the plastic covers under the floor pan. The down pipe section is much longer and the merge area shorter than the DE stock. Ive only had it on less than 10 miles so I feel it may even improve a bit. I feel no downside to this mod and they're cheap as everyones practically giving them away when they mod their exhaust.

Reset your ECU... then it gets even better When I sell my FI exhaust, I'm going back to stock exhaust for a while. Glad I kept my HR Y pipe!

If you really want some fun, toss in some HFCs like I did and watch your exhaust open up even more

+1 I have test pipes and I get...NO RASP, I dont even get that metal rattling sound with engine breaking anymore. One of the best "mods" I have done. the car is ultra smooth

Not sure about the AAM one but the HR Y pipe with HFCs and stock exhaust is sex. That's speaking from experience. I'm sure that test pipes make it sound good too.

Here are my clips with the HR Y pipe and Berk HFCs on my G......(stock axel back mufflers and midpipe)

idle/rev (in garage)

cruise (windows closed...leaving GRD right after install of my Berk HFCs)

Ignore the digital sounds...not sure where my Sony camera got them from...the car doesn't sound like that at all

Butt dyno gains for sure. A lil pick up in low end torque and more pep on the gas pedal when I get on the high way ramp near my house.

I rank the biggest mods that gave the highest butt dyno gains for me:

1. 3.5 FD VLSD Diff,
2. MD 5/16 Plenum Spacer
3. HR Y pipe/ tied with 4. Berk HFCs

0 breather mods before that

i dont think the HR y pipe gains are different from any other aftermarket y pipe gains. the DE Y pipe sucks donkey *****. so any decent Y pipe will give you the same gains if not more than the HR y pipe. the main advantage i see with the HR y pipe is that HR guys are probably almost giving these things away after they upgrade their exhaust.

I don't think so. I got my first dyno run at SP this weekend on the Mustang dyno. Too bad I swapped out my stock exhaust for the Fast Intentions one. I have no way to know what my #s were before I got the FI exhaust.

Heck yeah! I wish there was a place that stocked these locally and had a few demo cars where we could hear these parts in person before we buy! That would be so cool. Post clips when you get it installed

If anyone in Austin, TX area can let me use a y-pipe, I'll install it at Uprev, on my 2003 Z with a VQ35DE, and do a before/after dyno. If it adds gains, I'll buy it if the price is good. I already have a megan y-pipe, along with kinetix test pipes and fujitsubo titanium exhaust. PM or email me. Of course I'll post the results here.
