hks dual owners
Hey guys, I installed my hks last week and I was expecting the exhaust to be louder/throatier than what it is. I knew before I bought it that it wasn't going to be as loud as the greddy evo tt, but it seems like its pretty quiet. For example, when Im driving around with the window down, I can barely hear the exhaust. From 1 to 3 rpm it basically sounds almost like stock inside the cabin. Only when I really press on the accelerator around 5 to 6 rpm can I hear it. Is this normal for you guys also? To compare the sound, it sounds like blowing into a straw, the sound of air, not a low growl. Does it have anything to do with the gaskets I used or the scratches and scraps on the h pipe joints? Leaks? Plz help, thanks.
Can add a Y Pipe to a true dual exhaust...
The HKS is a very quiet exhaust all around. Even with test pipes its not really a "loud" exhaust. The reason for the sound is probably because its a true dual exhaust without a x pipe. It gives the exhaust a unique note. If your looking for loud, buy another exhaust. Like said above, adding test pipes will make it louder, along with some added rasp.

I felt the same way after I installed my HKS.
However, after I added in my Crawford HFC's a year later I felt like the sound was perfect. Louder tone at both idle and when driving.
Didn't go test pipes cuz I didn't want rasp.
My recommendation is HFC's for what I believe is the perfect combo.

Well the x pipe would not make anything louder, it gives the exhaust a different tone. You would have to weld in a x pipe if you wanted a different sound. As far as making the exhaust louder, you could do HFC or resonated test pipes and make it louder, but with any test pipes, you have the chance of adding rasp. If it were my car, I would go with the HFC's.
x-pipe is not what you are looking for.
What you want is to amplify the sound, so think resonated test pipes or metallic cats. Think Fast Intentions resonated test pipes or Berk high flow cats.

all I have to say is watch out for cali. cops with the exhaust! I got pulled over for stock exhaust, it must've been way to loud rofl! Now I have a HKS! I wonder what kinda trouble it will bring me...
I had this exhaust with non resonated test pipes and it was loud..If you want it loud thats the way to go, but there is some rasp. I switched over to HFC and I couldn't be more happy with the sound. check out my youtube clips.
Ok so it looks like I should go with hfc or test pipes. I don't really want to go with test pipes, because, although i want it loud, I don't want it too loud. My question is, with hfc+hks dual, how loud will it be? Compared to the evo tt, as loud? louder?
Would you guys think its worth it to buy hfc on my hks exhaust? Or would it be cheaper to just buy a evo tt. I will prob spend around 400 to 500 on hfc, and I already spent 800 in total for the hks, so i would spend 12 to 1300 if I were to buy the hfc, or I could trade or sell the hks and buy the evo tt and spend less than 1300 but gain the loud sound I want? What do you guys think?

Seriously though you can find sound clips on YouTube.
lol that was funny. I tried watching clips on youtube, no joke, I probably spent an hour each day listening and watching the same hks and greddy vids before I bought the hks and they sounded pretty much the same, with the same loudness. So I thought I was getting the exhaust that I wanted, but then I heard the hks and evo in person....
