In real world driving you drive straight. The filter is in the front bumper. You cant get much more air than that besides sticking it out of the hood.
Everything that was put in the front is meant to be cooled (where the most air is). If it was true that the loacation of the Nismo got more air then at least some stuff that got cooled would be inside the wheel well.

the air will move around the filter in the way you see the smoke trails in windtunnel test's on cars... the air goes over the curves of the car... just like the air will go around the filter, and the air is moving faster in a way that it will be harder to be drawn into the filter.
just my view on it you dont have to believe me.

if you were air being blown at an object, porse or not... would you go around it or work your way into the little crevisis of it?
Where the nismo sits it gets little to no air, like the factory airbox. The air has no choice (if air had a choice) but to go in b/c it is being sucked in. Air hits my filter and gets sucked in. Plain and simple. Air cant think, it hits an object then gets redirected. Since there is a vacume most air gets sucked in. The filter is a cone shape so the air that moves around the filter also gets sucked in.

where the nismo sits, enough air goes by that area but not in extreem force where the nismo CAI can actually draw in more air...
The AEM and the NISMO intakes are virtually the same creature. Nissan contracted AEM to manufacture the NISMO intake. Basically the only difference is the color and the name. Personally i bought the NISMO jsut because of the warranty issue. I must say that I am thouroughly satisfied with it......it sounds great.

. Look at me, I too try to be safe along the "warranty" issues. My dealers up here are a**holes when it comes to mods. If I am not mistaken, only the NISMO S-Tune parts are covered by warranty. But then again, it's only a CAI...I don't expect gains to be noticeable, but I think they look cool under the hood for what it's worth!

I choose the NISMO because of the water diverter. It is easy to find as a part all to itself. Just do a google search. NISMO developed the GTR and nobody knows the VQ better than NISMO. So even if it is a repackaged AEM it is the one NISMO picked.
blug35c,
Good choice. Honestly, I don't think that any of us have super high expectations from these CAI's. I think that it's mostly looks and sound. It would be nice, however, to fabricate some sort of scoop that funnels air into the filter element. Anyone had ideas or even done this yet?
