look into HFC's or a plenum spacer. it will amplify the exhaust note and give you the sound you want. WOOOOO WOOOOOOT!!!!

HFC for sure, and is much cheaper than NISMO catback, but I still want to research and see if that G (with NISMO) I mentioned had any other mods.

I wouldn't mind spending a little more and get a NISMO catback, if I could retain the same VQ sound, but making it louder.

On the side, I don't think there is a S/C kit for the new HR engine yet, is there?

Let me check with the G35. So my understanding is that a NISMO catback will retain the classic VQ sound, but only make it louder, correct? I want my Z to be still recognized as a Z, but only from further away, once I am done.

Thanks for your help man!
imo yes it will be the closest and sound like sex..when i just had nismo cat back and injen intake and stock cats on my car sounded great not too loud and not too quiet and no rasp at all..was no drone and only loud when u really get on it just like the stock exhaust and really keeps the tone instead of having the deep truckish v6 sound i have heard from some exhausts..now nismo with berk high flows sounds great but much louder and starts to take away from the same exhaust note imo..that is what i have now with my vortech and it sounds much different..i love it but different than it did before with stock cats and what not..u wouldnt be dissapointed in the nismo cat back if ur going for the vq sound

That's just it-------you've described the exact effect I am going after. I am planning on R-tune dual intakes and S-tune catback.

Hey listen man, just want to thank for your patience and help. I am still a newbie at this, and I LOVE the sound of VQ

Looks like Kinetix highflow cats is the solution.

Mine lasted 19,206 miles before failing inside. Rattled like a SOB.

if your serious about getthing that stock exhaust note louder. i have a solution test pipes no cats, bigger y pipe, no resonator, and end it with a magnaflow exhaust. my setup sounded like a stock note but about three times louder and nicer. just cost a little more then 450 dollars.

$450 is something that I could fork away, so no issues there. Just that I've heard test pipes sounding raspy, and without a cat, it's going to smell pretty bad, isn't it?

again i will say if u are looking to change the cat-back then i would go with a nismo, if u are looking to change just something to make it louder without changing cat-back yes go with high flow cats and not test pipes, i have berk hfc's..but i dont see the point in doing high flow cats and keeping stock exhaust, why not just do it right and get the most out of it and get high flows and a cat-back..are u going for any performance gains?

Performance gains will be a nice bonus, but my main purpose here is to make the stock VQ sound louder (is this rice?)

I have heard theories of losing low-end torque after changing to a new exhaust, is this true, in your opinion?

i just overall feel like u should do it the right way and get a cat-back if anything over just getting hfc's for the stock exhaust, plus it will look better.. it will have a better sound imo..and yet be similar to the stock exhaust note not too loud or raspy nice and clean..but as far as losiing power yeah on some exhaust say maybe like a true dual 3" exhaust or something that is just too big for your car, but from a y- back exhaust that isnt true dual such as a nismo setup no u will not lose any torque u will gain torque and horsepower and gain a great sound

Sounds just like the package I was hoping to have. So once I have the NISMO catback, should I still be looking at a HFC or? The dude posted his not-so-good experience with Kinetics HFC, and made me think twice about it.

I don't have much money, and want to spend ONCE, on the correct item.

The Nismo exhaust does make the tone a bit deeper but it still sounds good. I still like it though, especially when I start it inside the parking garage at my job.

if u did go with nismo and hfc's then u would get a decent amount of power as well as a great sound, but it is not the same vq sound that u have with just the cat-back alone, it gets quite a bit louder and a deeper growl but sounds great!! i have nismo cat back wth berk high flow cats and love it
