Exclamation How to amplify stock VQ35 exhaust note?

Hey guys,

I REEEALLY love the stock "wooooooowooooooooooooooooooo" exhaust note of the stock VQ engine, and am looking for an easy way to amplify this sound.

Without selling my left kidney.

Any suggestions / ideas would be welcome. Thanks guys in advance!

Thanks man! If I get a highflow cat, I should able to retain the sound of stock VQ, but only make it louder, correct?

I was hoping to get a serious answer.

Looks like Kinetix highflow cats is the solution.

alright, maybe I am doing a lousy job trying to describe the stock sound of VQ.

It's that sexy sound that you've once loved (for those with aftermarket exhaust). VQ makes it, starting from 1800RPM to 3000RPM, I think.

I had the chance to listen to a set of NISMO on a G35 with DE engine this last weekend, and to me, it didn't sound much like the stock VQ sound any more.

My goal here is to retain the stock VQ sound effect, only make it louder.

Go with the HFC's. I've heard a stock exhaust with HFC's and another car with non-resonated testpipes on friends' cars. The testpipes add a bit of rasp and kinda changes to the tone to a more aggressive note. The HFC's retain more of the stock sound than the TP's.

Spend $ 200 and buy an E-cut out. Install it just before your muffler. It will be exactly what you are looking for!! And you can go back to stock with the flip of a switch.

P.S. Your question has been asked AT LEASE once a week. Search and you will find more info then you will waiting for us to answer this AGAIN!!

a set of nismo? dont get that wording, because its just a y pipe back to tailpipes and not true dual just like the stock exhaust and it is the absolute closest u are gonna get to a stock vq exhaust note amplified with adding an exhaust...did this one u heard have headers, or high flows, or test pipes also...i am saying just do a nismo cat-back with stock cats, its def. closer than all the rest to the same exhaust note as stock just amplified

You've brought up a REALLY good point------I am not sure if the G35 I've listend had other mods done as well, it just might have, which would of course alter the note.

Let me check with the G35. So my understanding is that a NISMO catback will retain the classic VQ sound, but only make it louder, correct? I want my Z to be still recognized as a Z, but only from further away, once I am done.

Thanks for your help man!
