Header wrap is great stuff. It keeps underhood temps much lower, it even helps keep underhood noise a bit quieter.

update:

as expected the headers are a b-tch...so car is in the shop overnight, each bolt needs to be heated to be removed, also had to remove water lines so new thermostat going in as well...completely changed the brakes (rotors, pads and ss lines), got the 5/16 spacer ready for install...hope the install goes smoothly tomorrow morning.

Then off to get me an osiris tune...

FYI, I picked up 1.3hp and 8.1tq to the wheels from lightening my rotors by ~5lbs on each axle. Did you go with a two piece floating rotor or just a solid one like the OEM?

Headers are a pain to install, I've had mine done 3 times already. Has your shop worked on the VQ35 before?

ya, water line removal sucks. I didn't have a problem getting the header nuts loose though.

make sure you get the water hose gasket above the header on the drivers side installed. I didn't know there was a gasket there and had a coolant leak. Found the gasket 2 days later on the shop floor. It's where the double pipe hits the block. Little sneaky gasket.

I went with oem-type cross-drilled and slotted, with stoptech ss brakelines...I will probably pick up HP since I went from OEM wheels to lighter wheels (probably next time around I will get some 2piece floaters since they are sweet looking)

3 times? Dammmmnnn that sucks, hopefully I won't have to do that.

Yea I saw the gaskets, my mechanic knows his **** so I am not worried about the leak parts but he tried to break the nuts loose and they were a **** hair away from snapping and that would be more than a days work at that point...I would have had it done today if it wasn't for those damned bolts.

Tomorrow she'll be done along with the spacer installed, can't wait!

some pix for those who are interested...

header bolts won't come off.

they tried to heat them up and take them off but no luck, they are ready to snap.

I said screw it, put the car back together.

I'll be putting those headers up for sale.

When I decide to do my clutch (next month or so) I'll do the headers then where I will end up getting long tubes.

Anyone recommend a good clutch (I am searching now for it)

things just won't come off, I tried too, and I am not new to the game.

I'll do headers when I do my clutch, just rip the motor out and do it then.

that's wild. mine is an 03 and i drive it year round in the snow and rain and mine came right loose with a breaker bar.

try some break free or kroil on the nuts and let them sit for a few days. If you unbolt the motor mounts you can jack the motor up a few inches to get more clearance for a breaker bar. I say just break the bolts and put new studs in it. They are obviously rusted and needing replaced anyways.

I agree, but for the most part replacing the exhaust manifold studs would be a pull motor job...and that's not something I want to do right now...The car runs fine and I wana keep it that way without having much downtime.

I will get a new clutch and possibly some other under-hood stuff as well as some headers later on and then I'll rip the motor out and do all the work, right now I'll leave it as is....

Guess I'll go do the osiris tune now...
