High flow cats are not legal for smog in Ca. As of Jan 2009, smog technicians are required to check for CARB EO #'s on aftermarket cats. So if the smog guy peeps underneath to see you have aftermarket cats, he has to check for CARB #'s. No CARB #, no pass visual even if you pass tailpipe.

Magnaflow doesn't even have products listed for the state of CA, only way around it is having it shipped from one of your friends out of the state. As for visual, get a smog tech that you or a friend know and that will not check for carb #.

as mentioned, no cats are "legal" in CA except the ones from the manufacturer

plenty of people still by them (we use Ultimate Racing and AAM's). They are all technically listed as off road use only

Will you get caught? All depends on the luck of the draw, like any other mod you do
