Piss poor service from AAM
After waiting well over a month to get my order in and still waiting, here goes...
I ordered a 3" single exhaust and silencer from AAM (Altered Atmospheres) through Intense Motorsports (a great company BTW) and they contacted AAM to get me a ship date. I was told to expect it in one week. 10 days later I call Intense to see what's up. They call AAM who says the stainless pipe is coming in today; they'll have it to me in a few days. I wait another week and call again. This time I find out that the stainless pipe still hasn't come in, but I should have the exhaust in two weeks. OK, I understand that you can't build an exhaust without pipe, but you shouldn't make promises you can't keep.
I get the exhaust after a month, which is a VIBRANT canister expertly welded to some nicely bent stainless pipe which fits perfectly. No complaints aside from the Vibrant can, which I will withhold judgement on. Seems fine for now. Anyway, the silencer wasn't in the box.
I call Intense for the fourth time, and they contact AAM. AAM says they're sorry, it was an oversight. They will send it out second-day air. After five days I call Intense again. They say it's in the mail; I'll get a tracking number tomorrow in my email, and they confirm my email address. I'll get the silencer tomorrow. Four days later, no email, no silencer.
So I'm about to call Intense again. It's not like this was a minor mistake or a delay due to parts being shipped from Japan. This is abysmal customer service served up with a side order of B.S. Intense is no doubt getting sick of apologizing to me on behalf of Altered Atmospheres. The last time I called Intense, they were already on the phone with AAM on behalf of another customer.
Never again.

yeah exactly!! why wouldnt u just purchase from aam or call aam, seems to me u are dealing with people who are giving u the run around and making promises themselves...now accusing aam of the poor service without even knowing whats really going on??just a thought i guess

Agree with tylerxfire. You have a relationship with Intense Motorsports, and can verify the facts in this situation.
You are not privy to the relationship between Intense and AAM. Their interaction is hearsay on your part.
Interesting that you praise Intense Motorsports, and refer to them as a "great company." When the fact is that they took your money and did not deliver.

I tried calling AAM directly to see what was going on, and I got the runaround. They told me to go go through Intense since that was the supplier. They made no effort to even look into the problem despite me making it clear that I wanted an answer. Had I known there would be this much trouble, I would have gone directly through AAM just so there was no middleman to negotiate. As it is, I bought plenty of products through Intense in the past and have never had a problem. What's wrong with showing a little loyalty? Oh well.

I bought my AAM Y-pipe from one of sponsor, and i was just not happy with how their pipe quality came in. And i talked to clint, he sent me diff one without any question. Sorry to hear that tho.
AAM is a job shop.
They build parts on jigs in their shop as needed. They have a couple of guys in house that build their exhausts, and other parts.
Not a whole lot different than going down to your local muffler shop and having them cobble together an exhaust (although AAM may actually do some R&D, but cannot confirm this).
They (AAM) are not on par with a manufacturer such as HKS, GReddy, etc.
If I am wrong, please correct me. Been around the car forum thing for a very long time (FreshAlloy, Zilvia, etc) and this is what I've seen.

lmfao...i take it u have never been to aam so i would delete your post...its way off the truth and i have no idea why u would speak of a place u have no idea of other than going on their website maybe and this forum...lol...wow
the parts coming out of aam are quality parts and far from your local muffler shop and all tested to perform, ..u should see the machinery they have and parts they are testing all the time, 350z, 370z, g35, gt-r, etc.. parts tested and made as well as installations, tuning, selling other parts etc...i dont think ur local muffler shop is developing any quality parts or doing half of what AAM is doing..what a comment
Sorry to hear about your experience. It is our standard policy to defer all wholesale orders to the initial dealer with whom you purchased the product. I do what I can to keep drop shop orders rolling smoothly. However, particularly because you did not purchase the product directly from us, it is unreasonable to place all blame directly upon AAM.
Intense & AAM have a great working relationship - from my experience Intense has been a great company to work with. Sometimes orders between multiple companies get skewed. I will personally resolve this issue so that you can get on the road with the all of the components you initially requested - I will look into this silencer for you and make sure your order is complete and your issue with AAM is resolved..
My contact info is available from many sources. If you have any questions, please feel free to email, pm or call me. ClintonM@AlteredAtmosphere.com. 301.330.8835.
Thank you for your patience in the matter,
Regards,
Clinton

I turbo'd my first car with a kit I designed, fabricated, installed, and tuned in 1998. This was on a car (MKII N/A MR2) with only 3 documented cases of FI at the time I built my kit (2 others before me both expereinced engine failure). My car lasted over 25,000 miles on that kit. So I was trailblazing, and not following the leader.
Google "Altered Atmosphere Motorsports". There are quite a few people who have less than stellar things to say about them.
The thing I dislike the most about them, is their product pricing is in line with GReddy, HKS, APexi and others.
Do they have robotic welders? Do they endurance test/race test their products? Do they have an R&D department with Engineers (not just a guy who can run SolidWorks) that design their stuff? Do they have an assembly line? Do they sponsor race teams?
Probably "No" to all of these questions, yet they still charge as much if not more than than companies that actually have all of the stuff I mentioned. Hmmm, should I pay $1500 for a AAM dual exhaust with mystery mufflers (vibrant maybe), or should I spend $1400 on an HKS exhaust that has 25 years of heritage behind it.
Especially in the age of the internet, the customer is always right. Word of mouth spreads like herpes on the web.
Sometimes in special circumstances, you have to take a hit and break even or even lose money to satisfy the customer. If you don't go the extra mile, don't expect to stay in business in the long run.
Seen it a million times.
I stand behind my first post.
