Sup guys, just got rid of my bassani TD exhaust. That with my megan longtube headers just got way too loud and raspy. So i went back to stock exhaust + longtubes. It sounds really good and suprisingly no rasp. However it feels like i lost a lot of power especially in the midrange. Back when i had the bassani it felt like the car just wants too keep going, but now it just chokes. Will replacing the ypipe free up a good amount of airflow? If so is there one that wont change the sound of my current setup? I dont want it to be raspy.
Thanks
Thanks
I have headers, resonated test pipes and borla. zero rasp.
those long tube headers do not have resonators in them which i would assume causes that problem.
The stock y pipe is highly restrictive. It's tiny plus it puts 2 small pipes into 1 small pipe so of course it will restrict flow.
get rid of the long tubes and put the bassani back on. I just met jeremy at the track tuesday night and he has bassani. It sounded great with no rasp at all.

1. i miss the oem sound
2. Bassani is easier to take off than longtubes
3. I miss the oem sound LOL
What i want is to keep the oem sound/look while getting the most power out of it. From what ive been reading it seems like the most restrictive part is the cats and ypipe (which you just confirmed). The only option i have so far is megan ypipe with the two resonators in them or the much more expensive motordyne with resonators as well. Again i want to keep the oem sound with no rasp,...suggestons?

well, true in the cats and y-pipe being restrictive but the stock exhaust is also restrictive because it's a small diameter and only single pipe. That is why the y-pipe is also restrictive. Y pipe goes into 1 tube that is too small for good flow.
Honestly i think headers are a waste if you keep the stock exhaust setup from there back. It's like attaching a garden hose to a straw. The water flows good until it hits that straw then it slows down.
Mine doesn't sound OEM but it sure doesn't sound like rich. it's a little louder but i think it's about the same tone as stock. I do not like the greddy, nvidia, etc exhausts because they sound "hollow". I just wanted slightly louder oem exhaust with more flow for my FI setup.

eh, i think switching that y-pipe will just be a waste of your money if you plan on keeping the stock muffler and resonator.
Those headers are what, 3" (or 2.5" at the smallest) for the outlet? then into a sub 2" exhaust pipe? I don't think the headers are doing much for you either except removing the weight from the stock cats.

well if i decide to go aftermarket catback thats the exhaust in my mind. HOwever my close friend has a nismo and imo it doesnt sound that similar to stock. Tone and sound level is pretty similar but you lose that nice unique purr from the stock exhaust.

Was he running HFC, stock cats, test pipes? I had test pipes when I installed the nismo and it didnt sound like stock. I bought some berk HFCs and installed them and brought back the stock VQ tone. Ask singh for his youtube videos. I run the same setup as him and it sure sounds like stock to me.
Did it change the sound at all? rasp?
No...I didnt get any rasp even when i put berk hfc on .But i have a more quiet type exhaust tanabe medalion touring.
