Best Y-Pipe for $300 or less?

It's all about diameter and flow. Just do the math and you should be able to gauge the best one for you. IE: if cats/test pipes = 60 mm, then you would want 60 mm y-pipe as well as 60 mm piping going out to the exhaust or what ever the diameter is at the end of the y pipe matching up to the exhaust. If the beginning point is 70 mm then follow that flow on out etc..

Let's get this one going again! I have 1-2 months to decide on a Y-Pipe/single exhaust combo. (This is because I just ordered Berk HFC's today and need to rebuild my performance parts fund)
I don't want to spend $400+ on Tanabe or JIC. I'm not so sure I believe in the quality of Megan Racing because for such a low price, they must not do as much R&D, or use lower quality materials. I've heard that Nismo cracks cats.
So what else is left? How can I get a new Y-Pipe from an HR without paying "stealership" prices? How about the Stillen? They're a quality company and the price is right for me ($195). Opinions?

Stillen doesn't have the flex couplings and is a 3" collector...meant for mating to same diameter exhaust. The flex would seem to be important to reduce the rigidity and extend the life of the other exhaust components. I know the Motordyne is expensive and I've been debating for past few days myself but Motordyne quality is top notch. Where did you buy the Berks $$$?

If you know where I could have gotten them cheaper I don't want to hear it, they're already on their way to me, it'll just make me sad.

Hey mvisit1,
Well, i went with the Motordyne XYZ with straight pipe and the Berk's as well... on the way. Been a fan of Tony at Motordyne since his earliest experimentation days with the G/Z community. I'm sure the extra cost is worth it...in the quality and results that his parts produce.
The XYZ is a 3" outlet like any of the other aftermarkets but everyone says its not gonna hurt matters in any way...and will be primed for when the rest of the exhaust gets replaced. Next up is Osiris ...go fast parts make money go faster, but i enjoy the ride.

Depending on what the size of the exhaust you are matching up to is, the HR y-pipe offers great bang for the buck. I installed one and have before and after dynos showing a decent gain. The only mod to the car other than that before and after was a Ztube and Popcharger.
This is on my 2005 G35 with a Revup motor for reference. You can see how it really wakes up around 4500rpm to redline. The gains were around 6-7whp in the middle of the "hump", and tapering off to about 5whp gain at redline.

This is a really old thread, but some interesting food for thought when considering aftermarket Y-pipes.

Its pretty crazy seeing the variance in fitment some manufacturers parts
