Default hks exhaust leak

Hey guys,

I have the hks dual exhaust and the flex joints of the h pipe were scraped up. It wasn't so bad as to cause a leak, but its been over a year and I read that over time it will eventually leak due to the metal cooling and heating up. So I was wondering if there is anything I can wrap it with to prevent leaking. Exhaust wrap? Heat wrap? Im going to be installing hfc soon so might as well get it wrapped while under the car, thanks.

You could probably find a replacement flex pipe on the bay for like $75. Other than that, I'm not really sure, maybe someone else here will have to chime in.

So changing the hks h pipe won't affect the exhaust itself?

If the exhaust is NOT leaking do not fix it.
If the exhaust IS leaking, tape is a ghetto fix.

Wish I could chime in. I've had my HKS for 6 months and it's still in perfect condition lol I'm amazed.

I doubt it'll start leaking in the first place. Obviously I don't know the severity of the scrapes. If it does start to leak I would take it to a reputable muffler/exhaust shop and see if they can weld the leak closed. If the flex pipe starts to leak, but a new one as mentioned.

Just the flex joints are scraped. I haven't seen it the joints since a year ago, but if I remember correctly, all the connecting weave is f ed up, and you can see the metal/spring beneath the weave.

Well try and find a new flex pipe if it makes you stay awake at night. But if it isn't leaking I'd leave it and check it from time to time.

I just got my HKS worked over the weekend. I replaced the H-pipe with an X-Pipe. Previously my condition was bad. Both flex joints was torn and part of the pipe was bent and cracked. I don't recall what may have caused it but it was really bad. So the shop helped replaced both flex joints and installed my X-pipe.

Thats exactly what it looks like. Down to the springs, and the springs are scraped too.

How much did they charge in fixing your flex joints? They look perfect now. Also, how is the sound with the x pipe? A little quieter?

Steve,

I got two new flex joints, a x-pipe from eBay and labor for all $100. I love the sound, it is only a tab very tab bit quieter and the rasp is gone. Definitely notice the rasp is gone now. Sorry I wish I have a comparison sound clip to show you. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Wow seriously? Thats amazing. Can you tell me where you got the flex joints, x pipe from? Which ebay user? And I noticed your in cerritos, where did you get the work done? Thanks. And don't worry about the comparison sound clip, if the x pipe did make the hks sound better ill take your word and go for it :]

Sorry made a mistake on my price. It is $100 plus the X-Pipe which I pick up from the guy (see link). I got the Flex Joints from the muffler shop. If you want maybe you can get it cheaper if you shop around for Flex Joints and just find someone to install it for you. My sound probably changed a lot because I had a crack on my pipe. So I hope you weren't expecting so much. I went to this place here in Norwalk. It is off Pioneer on the 91 heading West. I don't have the address on hand right now. Anything else feel free to ask. If you really need that shop address let me know too. I am sure I have it somewhere.
