Default exhaust vibration fix?

Every once in a while after some hard driving I will get a slight exhaust rattle. I tracked it down under the car and it is just one of the pipes touching slightly. It could probably be fixed by replacing the rubber exhaust hangers but the last time I pulled the exhaust off they were a real pita.

I'd like to just clamp a piece of rubber hose around the spot where it touches as a fix for now until I can fix it properly but I dont know what type of rubber will withstand the heat without melting or causing nasty stains to the polished stainless.

I would think that a silicone based hose would be the best but I'm not sure. Anyone have any ideas?

that is a band aid fix. you need to relocate the pipe ever so slightly so it will no longer hit and rattle. I don't know what part you are talking about so I can't really help, but you might have to adjust the closest hanger.

There are several ghetto fixes such as rubber and heat wrap.

But the right way, as you know, is to fix it properly. One technique is a wood shim: loosen connecting nuts and bolts. Insert wood shim. Tighten nuts and bolts. Remove shim.

I have the same problem, which started after I put my test pipes on. I think the reduction of weigth from the cats to the test pipes cause my exhaust to sit higher and sometimes touch the suspension arm that holds the rear right spring.

I could only think of replacing the rubber hanger with a larger one, but I couldnt find one larger than the one I already had on there. I ended up using a ghetto fix. I got a metal fastener and tightened it around the rubber hanger, causing it to compress and elongate thereby creating enough room and not vibrate against the suspension part.

but yeah, a more permanent fix is necessary.

I know a shim or a rubber hose would be just a band aid fix but until I can get it on a hoist I think its a good idea so no more damage can happen. The part thats slightly touching is on the drivers side section just ahead of the exhaust cans ( hks exhaust )

Thanks

I have this problem with my injen exhaust, and it got worse with test pipes. Rattles and vibrates the entire cabin at certain rpm's. I've never actually taken a look to see what could be hitting, but it's been starting to bother me a lot lately so I'm gonna see what I can do.

I have the same issue since installation of test pipes. Just thought it was my BORLA but now it may need adjusting.

Yeah I think mine definitely needs to be adjusted, the shop that installed my exhaust installed it really crooked (Just to avoid any confusion, the shop wasn't Performance Motorsport, it was a different shop I went to a long time ago). The left tip sticks further out than the right one and the left canister sits noticably higher up than the right one. So something is definitely where it shouldn't be.

I have/had the same problem with my test pipes. The resonator on my passenger side TP was touching the heat shield and was rattling a lot. So today I finally got back under there, loosened up all the TP bolts and the y pipe bolts and tried to adjust the piping by pulling on it and tightening the ypipe bolts. I then took one of my wrenches and shoved it between the resonator and heat shield and tightened up all the bolts. The gap is only a few milimeters but so far there hasnt been any rattling.

Does anyone make harden exhaust hangers? This used to be a great mod for suby/mitsu with longer and harder exhaust busings....been looking for one for the Z.

Would these work?
