Default Requesting opinions - Test pipe on Stock Exhaust vs Injen SES

I'm currently running the Injen SES true dual exhaust on a mostly stock Z. I recently came across some cheap test pipes (resonated) and wondering if I should purchase them.

From what I've read, the Injen SES is extremely loud and raspy w/ tp. Since these testpipes are so cheap, I'm considering getting them anyways and putting my stock exhaust back on. But I'm wondering if that would cause more restriction in the exhaust (thereby defeating the benefit of using the test pipes).

Any suggestions?

And a followup question would be, which is greater?
TP + stock exhaust VS HFC + true dual exhaust

I've STFA and found a lot of good opinions. Just wanted some more thoughts though.

Sorry that title said "vids/dyno". I'm just requesting opinons. There are plenty of vids and dynos out there that I've seen.

what brand TPs are they? I would be wary about cheap tps as some have been known to crack. Also, why would tps on a stock exhaust cause more restriction? It creates more flow over your stock cats since their catless.

The are pipes are berk I believe, used for unknown.

I meant the the stock pipes would cause more restriction than my current true duals. From what I've read, these TPs do not go well with my current setup as it is annoyingly loud. So I'm trying to decide if I should get these and go with the stock exhaust, or, get HFC with the current duals. I'm hoping for max gains with minimum hearing loss.

Get my question?

oh i see. sorry, i just misread your question. well HFC def will tone the noise down compared to test pipes. I would just go w/ the hfc and the duals and call it a day but its really up to your preference.

hfc + dual= sound almost like your current setup, maybe slightly louder
stock + TP= smelly, 50/50 chance of rasp (hardly none for me), sounds like stock unless you get on it

as for gains, i think it would roughly be around the same for both...

First off, Berk doesnt make resonated TP's, just standard and HFC's.

Second, I also have the Injen SES and just installed Berk TP's yesterday.

The sound is pretty damn loud, but that deep note that it carries usually stays the same under normal driving, just much louder with only very little rasp. Its sounds incredibly good under normal driving and take offs.

However, under WOT, the sound changes drastically. Its becomes alittle higher pitch with much rasp, but its really not that bad.

people not liking rasp is just a forum bandwagon thing. Fact of the matter is we have a V6, not a V8, so its gonna sound more high pitch no matter what. If you notice a Vette with TP's and dual exhaust is also very raspy, just the tone is more deep because of the engine.

If you install TP's, your gonna get rasp out of almost any exhaust system, period. Its part of the game and its part of having increased flow from the exhaust. Remember your increasing performance with TP's, your not out to win an exhaust glamour contest.

IMHO, taking your SES off to put stock on with TP's just because of the sound is retarded.

Hey Geaux - thanks for your post. Thats exactly the setup I am considering so that helps me a lot. From what I've read in the archives, it seems the Injens in particular are a bit loud with TPs. I'm finding a lot of clips on youtube as well. Im leaning towards HFCs now.. Thanks again!

As for using the stock exhaust, I asked because from a couple of posts I've read, there wasnt much gain from stock catback vs Injen. So if that was true, I was thinking using the stock exhaust + TPs as it has a more bareable sound. Actually, lots of people run this setup and seem to like it.

I would go the HFC route.

I thought i could deal with the rasp at WOT but i cant. And as my ECU is adjusting its only getting raspier and louder.

To fix, i just ordered the Magnaflow resonated "X" pipe (part #14385), for 1 bill shipped, to be welded in place where the current SES twin resonators are located.

This will fix the loss in low-end TQ and resolve high-pitch raspiness at WOT.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm already looking for HFCs in the classifieds.

^ The Magnaflow X does the same.

Mine as of now sounds great until about mid range, even deep raspiness sounds good, but then the pitch just climbs like crazy, as does the raspiness.

yup, mine sounds just like this.

BTW, after TP install, did you have the prob of your pass side TP hitting the frame underneath at idle? Its vibrating the chit outta my cabin, I gotto adjust that as well.
