how long does an after market exhaust last
iv had my hks exhaust for about +30k miles never had any issues with it until this weekend. i was doing a couple spirited canyon roads enjoying the weekend.
during one of these runs it started to sound like my exhaust was literally being dragged on the ground. pulled over looked underneath, nothing get back in drive home. pulled off the mufflers and found that one of the flanges that hold up the pipe pretty much peeled off the wall of the pipe leaving a pretty decent hole long story short i welded it back on and its good to go again but it left me wondering what the life expectancy of an aftermarket exhaust is and left me wondering about the quality of hks

I think for most of these exhausts the life of them is very dependent upon the weather and road conditions.
It probably will last just as long as the stock exhaust or any other exhaust for that matter. Any damage is likely secondary to environmental causes and not deterioration in the material.

well one thing i didnt mention was that there was a cracked weld on the muffler itself as well any possibility mine was just welded poorly because they look solid just poor quality if that makes sense better yet they look sloppy unlike the small coins over lapping each other

cracked welds could be caused by not having your test pipes supported, which some or maybe all don't work with factory support. by not being supported will cause vibration in your exhaust, hence cracking the welds
