Default popcharger causes air flow sensor to go bad?

I was getting "service engine" lights and my z was running rough, so I took it to my dealership. At first they said they thought it was the fuel injectors, probably because the car doenst get driven that much (bought new in 04 and i just got 15k on it). Then they call me back and said the air flow sensor ( i think thats what they called it), was bad and need replacing. They said they saw this a lot with cars that had k@n filters on them (mine is actually a popcharger). Service dept said they think that the oil off the filter somehow comes in and ruins the sensor. Has anyone else heard of this? Does my dealer know what theyre doing? This sensor and the labor is going to be about 700, i sure would have liked to spend that money on something else.

It's possible, I guess, if the filter is over-oiled. Before they charge you a butt-load of money for a new MAF, get some carb cleaner and spray on it. There may be oil clogging it up. IMO, this is the most over-replaced piece on the car.
If cleaning doesn't help, just buy your own sensor and put it in. Don't let the stealership rape you on this.

OEM filter is dry. Many Aftermarket filters are oil soaked. Could oil foul the MAF sensor? Yes.
