Default 3 inch gaskets on my HKS?

Hey guys,

I recently borrowed my friends 3 inch single exhaust, and when I was done borrowing it, my shop installed the 3 inch gaskets from the single for my hks dual. I didnt' have 2.5 inch gaskets with me, and the shop didnt have any either, so what the heck. They said it fit so I had them install it. Now, it could be my imagination, but the car now sounds quieter than it did before. I was thinking maybe its because I installed 3 inch gaskets, instead of the 2.5 inch. Now I know it sounds crazy, but my reasoning is maybe: the 3 inch gasket, although it has a bigger diameter, it does not encircle the 2.5 inch piping, and instead overlaps the hole?? Just a wild guess. It seems quieter to me, so im just making things up and wanted to ask you guys for confirmation. Either way, im going to switch to 2.5 inch gaskets, just wanted to make sure here first, thanks.

oh my word.......I don't even know where to begin

cliffs notes: if the piping is not 3 inches, then your gaskets shouldn't be 3 inches. If they are, they are wrong. Simple as that.

of course your car sounds quieter with the HKS vs a single 3 inch exhaust...no surprise there

^^ lol of course i know the 3 inch single will be MUCH louder than my hks. I just wanted to know if the 3 inch gaskets have anything to do with the sound. Just asking if it does or doesnt affect the decibel level. And would like to know how the 3 inch gasket affect the 2.25 inch piping. Thanks.

If you truly have a gasket with a 3 inch ID, being asked to seal an exhaust with 2.25 inch ID piping, you tell us how it's going to affect things? How good of a job do you think it's doing? Unless your HKS uses inordinately large flanges with alot of surface area around the piping area, your gaskets are doing next to nothing

^^ alright thanks man. Sorry, im just asking you guys since I did tell my exhaust shop but they said if it fits, it will be fine. Like I said, either way, I am going to replace them back to 2.5 inch gaskets. Thanks for the help.

Well if the gaskets aren't doing a good job, wouldnt that mean the car would be louder? Since its not doing its job of sealing and causing an exhaust leak?

Anyways, here is a pic, not of my car, but one from exotic speeed, of what the gasket/pipes look like on my car. It sticks out
