Cleaning AEM filters
Hey dudes,
I just cleaned the AEM air filters on my 08 Z. I followed the directions and made sure not to over-spray the oil after I cleaned them.
When I fired it up, I revved it a little, and twice while at idle it got pretty "murky," and threatened to stall, but recovered and kept running. I got it out on the road on the way to the grocery store (neighborhood roads, nothing over 25mph) and again, twice when I pushed the gas, it threatened to stall out, but recovered. I got to the grocery store and back with no further problems, about a 20 minute drive all told, never put it over 5k rpm.
Now, I cleaned them a little later than would have been best I think (they've been on for about a year and a half or 25k miles), they were pretty dirty, and I'm assuming that the trouble I experienced is simply the air flow sensor readjusting to the increased air flow, but I wanted to check in with you guys and hear what you think and make sure this isn't symptomatic of a greater issue.
Next, almost ten years ago I installed in intake on an Impreza and the guy I bought it from told me to install the intake, and disconnect the battery overnight to reset the sensors. The guy who installed the intakes on my Z never did this I'm pretty sure, and I was curious if its necessary.
Thanks in advance for you help.
