Default NISMO Exhaust Damage

Got this brand new NISMO S-Tune exhaust shipped to me a couple of weeks ago, sustained some damage in transit.

Looking for some thoughts on the impact of this damage on performance & lifetime.

Thanks.

file a claim with the shipping company if you still can and contact the vendor if you haven't already. You paid for a new exhaust

Yep, 100% agree with you - already done.

Process has been going on for 2 weeks, this thread isn't to discuss the details of the process or which vendors are involved.

Just want to know what the impact is of this damage.

I am by no means an expert, but in my lay opinion, I would say that it could affect exhaust note. The thing is, you can see the damage on the outside, but what about the inside? Could the resonator or muffler baffling be damaged internally?

Agree with all comments.

The problem I'm having at the moment is that although I agreed (and paid the vendor for) insurance on the shipping, there was a miscommunication between the vendor and the shipping company, thus the package was not insured by the shipping company and they are refusing to pay.

The only option now is to start a claim against the airline, which would take weeks, and if successful only bring back .30 or .50 cents on the dollar.

Waiting to hear back what the vendor is going to propose.

But my expectation at the moment is a replacement exhaust shipped (at the vendors cost).

yes. I hope your vendor is honest - sometimes a company must take a hit to make things right. this is one of those times. is it your fault that the shipper and vendor had some sort of miscommunication? no.

Agree, although the vendor is one of the main distributors on this forum, and they have a very good rep. So I have full confidence that they will do the right thing.

If you paid the vendor for insurance then you should be covered. If the vendor screwed up between the vendor and the shipping place, thats not on you thats on them. You should get what you paid for and that was an insured shipment.

Agree. Impact on performance is negligible.

I know that the exhaust is under the car and no one sees it. But if you are spending $1,000 plus, the exhaust should be top shelf.

actually that could impact performance via restricting flow of air at a critical point in the exhaust process. def could create additional back pressure in the system.

that dent is just too large, and i am pretty sure it would be difficult to pull and weld as there is likely more damaged element inside.

Not prepared to identify the vendor.

What I can tell you is that they have offered a full refund, but won't ship a new exhaust unless the issue with the shipping company has been resolved.

ok . . . but imho the packaging is at fault here . . i had berk send me HFCs and the box was partly torn at one end . . . during shipping . . . but the HFCs were in soo much packaging that they were intact . . . some of the stickers / documentation on the edge was damaged . . .

Yep, agree with you here. The box had very little packing other than foam fitted inserts.

According to the vendor aparently this is how the exhaust ships from NISMO (Japan). The foam inserts hold the parts in place so they don't move about, maybe someone on the forums has a pic of this? and aparently this is how all exhaust manufacturers ship their exhausts.

The exhaust was damaged by the mid pipe banging against the muffler, thus damaging both parts. Likely caused by the parts falling out of the foam inserts as the box was thrown about in cargo.

I've made the recommendation for any further shipments for them to fill the box with bubblewrap/foam so that the parts can't move about inside the box.
