I kno it's an old thread, but I'm gunna post anyway lol.

I had a buddy of mine make me a 3in single (driver side) exit straight pipe from the y-pipe back. Thing was friggin loud! Had a 12in resonator welded on and it just sounds BAWS!

On the other hand, performance-wise, going from a stock dual to a single, you're increasing back pressure. The stock exits are what? 2.5in dual? So if u think about it. Exhaust has a total of a 5in diameter exit. Going to a single exit reduces that, thus increases back pressure. Increase in back pressure means increase in torque, but decrease in HP.

Although, I could be
I was always told that running anything wider than 2.75in piping on a N/A platform, you'll end up losin power. I asked around and was told by my local Z buddies that the VQ will still gain power from 3in piping.

Just going off of what I am told. So the information posted could be wrong. But did come from a pretty trustworthy source.

Wrong. Very wrong. If you still can't see that, draw a 5" circle and then draw two 2.5" circles inside it. It's not even close.

I figure if Nissan put a true dual exhaust on my IPL then it must be an OK thing to do. Thats why I put one on my Z. I love the thoaty sound they make.

Love the sound of a single, although I can't get used to the non-symmetry.

Loosing the balanced symmetry of having two just makes it look "off"...like a model car with an outside mirror or something broken off...like a man with one eyebrow...like a sandwich with a bite taken out of it...like, a tricycle missing a wheel, like...never-mind...you get the picture.
