Default Quick Release Test Pipes

I'm looking to get a pair of test pipes for tracking. But the car is also a DD so I dont want to keep the pipes on all the time. On previous cars I've seen test pipes that have quick release latches making it very easy to swap the cats with test pipes. Would anyone know if something like this exists for the Z?

That sounds pretty cool. How about a photo?

Seems more work than nessasary. Just get HFC's and tune it for the new cats. Going from cats to tp's and back sounds like a hassle. Unless you have lift in your garage. Go to exhaust shop and see if they can fabricate something.

motordyne xyz pipe. You can have the test pipes after headers but after the y pipe you can have either a high flow cat or straight pipe.

You could always just get an E-cut out installed too, it's normally done with boosted vehicles but you could do it for your car.

i have seen it done before it requires punching the studs out, and putting in quick release bolts, although it sounding like it was leaking all the time

I'm having trouble finding the example, but there are test pipes that have flanges where it is clipped on by hand instead of bolted. Its made specifically for easy swapping on the track. Just cant remember what its called.

It might have required some modifications to the original exhaust and cat converter though...

Has anyone ever done the E-cut out on a Z? I'd like to see, I've always thoguht it would be cool to open them up and rip out of somewhere. Then shut them.

There are thousands of exhaust photos on the internet. I am sure you can find just one.

Yes. You can find examples of the "dump" or "cut-out" here.

v-band flanges would be the closest to what you want. You'd just un-clamp each end, then pop the new pipe in and put the clamps back on. Downside is that you would need both the stock pipes and the test pipes, along with the headers and y-pipe or catback modded to work with the flanges. Much simpler to get HFC's and leave them, or just deal with the 5 bolts instead.

Remember that if you make any changes to the cat pipe, it's still illegal. You probably saw me unbolt (v-band clamp) my Motordyne cat-back exhaust at Laguna Seca. MD does not offer a v-band option for the real catalytic converter, however, you could get resonated HFCs in place of the stock cats, then you could try the MD HFC for track days and swap to their cat pipe to quiet it down for the street.

What I've seen is similar to the vband clamps, but without the bolts.

It uses something like this:

But the quick release latch is more heavy duty than the one shown above.

There are other exhaust adapters like this too:

Anyways, thats what I've seen and they work great on cars with a single cat. I realize its not as easy with our car and requires some custom fabrication. The motordyne route or HFC is probably more sensible. Well, another short lived idea...

Ya, that motordyne setup seems to be the best option with a lot of flexibility. I really liked your setup. But it does seem a bit louder than other straight pipes. ??

Very interesting. Looks like a headache to get under the car but I guess it would work.

Yes, the megaphone is loud, and I have no cats when on track (MD ART pipes).
