Default Motordyne 5/16th's question.

Hello, I've done a good bit of searching throughout the forum and have seen mixed opinions on this matter. Will installing a plenum spacer lean the car out to a dangerous point without a tune.

My 03's current bolt ons:

HKS Carbon Ti 3 inch single.

Custom y-pipe 2.5(s) to 3 inch with an 18 inch resonator.

JWT popcharger.

Kinetix resonated test pipes.

The main reason behind my question is due to the fact that there is no local tuner for Z's in the state. I'm sure with my bolt ons the car would definitely benefit from a tune, however with my current work schedule an 8 hour trip to Seattle may not be the be available for a long time.

Your ECU will compensate as needed. No need for a tune.

To an extent, just don't drive it like you stole it, and get a tone when you can. They are worth it

Would you say the occasional spirited drive would be harmful?

You'll be fine. I ran my 1/2 inch for years untuned and my a/f was in the 14's.

That's kind of along the lines of what I was thinking.

You'll be fine. These mods can run without a tune.

But...to truely see the results of these bolt-ons you're going to need the tune. I went from 224WHP to 242WHP with similar bolts-ons after the tune. After seeing the results of the tune, I formed my own opinion that the mods just make a bunch of noise and are more "youthful enthusiasm", if anything, until you get the tune...

^^^this... you'll get the most benefit of those mods with the tune.
Know this from experience.

I agree, tuning the car will be the last thing I do. I hope to make the trip out this summer. For now I'll install the 5/16th's and enjoy.

At least on my Z. I added all the breather mods and they all made power and it didn't run lean.
But when I did get it tuned it made another 12 HP.
