Default True or False

My Berk Technology Test Pipes do not throw a CEL. Somebody recently told me that as long as there is no CEL, then you will pass emissions. Is this true, because ive also heard that if you have no cats, you'll fail.

In the nicest way possible.. Why would i ask if my car will pass emissions, if they didn't do emissions testing where I live?

yeah, where I take mine.. they only plug it up to the computer, and then get inside the car and check everything. they do not lift the car or look under it whatsoever. i think im in the clear. which will save me much work and $$ in the future!

if you don't have cats then the sniffer test will fail horibly on HC's

if they don't do sniffer test, then maybe

some areas just check for "system readiness results" kind of a self check the ECM does periodicly... no check engine light could pass you

I would just pay $200 and have it "electronicly" done

I've always just swapped my stock cats in for emissions. $150 bucks max at a shop or you could do the swap yourself.

... I don't know how it is done in NC, but in cali smog shops can submit smogs via electronic submission. it allows the possibity of a "friend" superimpose a "stock" smog result onto your mosquito killer... thus a pass without even having to go to the smog station

you answered your own question. Emissions testing involves hooking up the sniffer. Otherwise it would be just a visual inspection.

the proper way to do an inspection in NC is to put it on some type of lift so you can inspect some stuff but most shops are lazy. As long as there is no CEL light, you are good. if you reset your battery just to turn off the CEL light, inspection wont work until you drive 50 miles which the light will turn back on if you do have somethign wrong. i know a lot of people try and do this but it wont work.

so to answer your question:

-visual inspection only: True (if they don't lift the car and check for cats)
-sniffer hooked up: False

they are talking about smog test which is their form of inspection.

When i lived in Nevada, they had SMOG which they put this device into your exhaust and it would take readings to their machines.

we just have regular emissions. your inspection info will go to the DMV office for you to renew your tags since that's the new rules in NC.
