Default HFCs w/ Y-Pipe on stock.... or.... AAM True Dual?

So the AAM competition shop is about 30 minutes from me. So I'm probably gonna go up there this weekend and get some upgrades. Gotta get more credit history for that mortgage loan, ya know? So ima upgrade the exhaust and get it tuned. Question is, which should I do?

AAM High Flow Cats $449 + install
AAM Y-Pipe $341 + install

OR....

AAM 3 inch True Dual Exhaust $1291 + install

Which do you guys think I should do? I'm not the most experienced.

The tune will cost:
$699 for osiris
$595 for dyno tune

Unless you're planning on learning how to tune it yourself, I'd hold off until you can afford to do about as many modifications as you plan to do all at once. Otherwise, when you decide to ditch your cat's and grab a CAI with a plenum spacer later, you will need to get another tune.

How big of a difference would a CAI make? The guy at AAM told me that pretty much any gains you would get from a CAI would be lost after tuning.

What's you overall plans for your Z?Without this, you're gonna be adding stuff/spending $$$...could go on&on.
If you are looking for sort of a stage one mod,go with a cat back,CAI,maybe a plenum
spacer. Why would you need a "tune" for $600?
But hey,you have the bucks to spend go for a full exhaust redo.
How long have you had your Z?If you do the duals,HFC,Y...its gonna sound alot louder.
Be pepared..when its done its done.
Checked any sound clips on this set up?

My short term goals are minor upgrades to tide me over until after I buy a house. I don't think I want to do too much more than this to this car. In a couple years I want to probably buy whatever new style Z is out (rumors of TT z in 2013... I think) and mod that one up. Either that or sit tight a few years until I can afford a GT-R.

Sound clip on the 3 inch duals yes. I like it, a lot louder and deaper. Although the hfcs and y pipe would be cheaper. Dunno. Can't decide what I wanna do.

Buy the y pipe back exhaust first IMO.

Reason? I might do that. I can't decide. I am doing a promotional deal with them where I put a small aam sticker on my car and promise to come to a couple shows at the facilities, which I was planning to do already. So I'm getting a several hundred dollar discount either way. The prices I listed are before discount. What are the disadvantages to a completely new exhaust?

If I had to pick a first exhaust mod it would be the catback/y pipe back. I really don't like the sound of HFC's or test pipes with an otherwise stock exhaust..........Way too raspy for me. Really don't even like them with aftermarket exhausts. There are so many exhaust combos, it's mind-numbing.

Of course, everybody's tastes are different. My buddy has a G37, first exhaust mod was Berk HFC's. Made me cringe when he accellerated. A lot of rasp! Bought Fujitsubo Legalis R(one of the tamest sounding catbacks)and it sounds great now. The Fuji has a real low/quiet tone and I guess it cancelled out the high pitched rasp from the HFC's.

I think I actually heard the full combo you're going for on an HR from a fellow member. Full AAM set up was very loud! Didn't hear under load, just revving. It was a long time ago but I do remember some rasp but not as bad as HFC's or TP's on a stock catback.

Here's a vid of a 350z with 2.5" AAM True Dual exhaust. There isn't a good video of the 3" pipes, but from what I heard in one video, the sound is a little deeper. I may be wrong. Is that a raspy sound? I definitely don't want raspy. I want it to sound powerful.

EDIT: Might help if I posted the link....

Personally I like the way that exhaust sounds in the vid. No rasp at all.

Look on youtube for 350Z's with just HFC's or TP's and you will hear the terrible rasp.

The AAM 3" I remember had different mufflers. More like Greddy Ti-C style mufflers.

There wouldn't be much difference performance wise from 2.5" to 3" pipes would there? Atleast not without a turbo I wouldn't think.

Here's all I could find for the 3" AAM.

That's the AAM I remember hearing. No reason to go 3" unless you want a headache every time you drive the car or plan on going turbo soon.

I have a Top Speed N1 3" and I need to take some Tylenol before and after driving it. I am going to have to start daily driving my Z next week. Might have to use my silencers..........

Well... 2.5" it is then! If I go with a full exhaust system. The guy at AAM told me I'd probably see about a 20hp gain from adding HFCs and a Y-Pipe. I wonder if changing the entire exhaust would have a similar effect? I'll ask him this weekend when I go I suppose.

Don't plan on any turbos soon. Unless someone wants to donate me one or sell me one for cheap! I don't wanna pay that much right now. I need to get more credit history before applying for a mortgage loan, so I'm using that as my excuse to blow some money on my car!

Quality test pipes will cost you $200. There are lots of suitable cat back exhausts for less than $1,291.

I'd go with exhaust and tune first. then get your other breathers. and idk about you but you shouldnt pay someone to install an exhaust system, its super easy.

Yeah, but they're only charging me around $50 bucks because I'm advertising them. Ill spend that in gas going there and back.
