borla install
self installed in 2 hours, no problems, leaks, rattles so far. Can't beat the price paid $660 shipped . Has gotten a little louder after 2 weeks, but still within reason. I do like the way is gets a littel raspy over 5500rpm and is pretty subdued and low tone down low. What I am concerned about is the cross over in the H-pipe. It's clamped for now, but I plan on MIGing it in a few months.

No rust, no way.
It also comes with a million mile warranty (possible because of the quality stainless they use).

My dad and I installed the Borla in our garage and got everything perfectly lined up and w/o any problems. The multiple pieces actually make it easier to install IMHO.

Getting the tailpipes to line up was no problem, they line up perfectly. The tailpipes and muffler are all one piece and welded. They hand from the stock hangers to.
Once the clamps were tight there were not rattles, nor can I imagine how there could be unless you missed a clamp or something. It feels SOLID.
I would say the sound is a little less exotic/braap than stock, but it is deeper and I like that.

I love my Borla TD, it does have leaks from the h-pipe connection, but I am too lazy to undo the clamp and put high temp silicone on it.. probably one of these days when I am under the car

rodH...you can do a search for the results of the DYNO shootout from SportZ. I believe they did a comparison with Stillen, Nismo, Borla, and some other companies. The most gain in terms of HP was the Borla while the highest gain in TQ was with Stillen. Hope this helps....BTW pricing for the Nismo is about 850 [not including shipping?] (dpending where you go...might want to check with performancenissanparts.com) while the Borla is (as taken from one of the above posts) $660 shipped.

rattling
hey guys, I had my borla TB exhaust installed about 2000 miles ago. Whenver I start up the engine, I hear loud rattling. I did not do the install myself, but rather had it done at a shop. What should i do to stop the rattling? Thanks in advance.

I would stop by the shop that installed it and have them look at. It is possible that the clamps once they went through a few heat cycles (Hot > Cold > Hot etc) loosened. I have seen this in other systems that I have installed as well as mine although mine never rattled.

Sound is more aggressive than the nismo but the "exotic" reference is subjective. I think the stock exhaust has a certain reverb that the nismo amplifies... it sounds really sweet, but it's not as scary as the beast like howl of the borla.
Nismo sounds more refined and elegant, borla sounds more raw and dangerous. Injen sounds, well, tuned import.
The reason I mentioned exotic is because I revved next to my buddy's 996 w/ sport exhaust and they sounded amazingly similar.
Another thing that sold me on the borla is the rolled tips. The sharp edge tips on the stillen and nismo look cheap to me. Although I do like the shiny canisters which the borla lacks.

I have 11,000+ miles on the borla and no leaks, squeeks or rattles. The tips line up precisely. I paid $75.00 to have a local muffler shop put it in. They were very careful about alignment. they lost money on me. they laid it all out before they started to install. The most time and trouble I observed was getting the stock hangers out of the rubber mounts.

EDIT
PS I love my Borla!!!! Most exotic sounding exhaust out there IMO from the inside and out. Best of all, not a hint of rice sound to it. No problems either.
IMO Injen is a quality exhaust but looks and sounds rice and the Nismo exhaust is expensive but just not worth it.

Finally got rid of my Borlas, and I am back to stock; at least until I decide on a replacement.
Those Borlas are crappy, had mine for 9,700 miles, rusted pretty badly, adjusted & retighten 3 Xs and the joints were frozen but it was still leaking and rattling.
Eventhough I got an increase of 7.9whp and 6.69 lbs Torque with the Borlas and it cost me $900 installed, couldn't take it anymore; sold it for a song
You're right about the Injen, joust75 much better quality

good point, neur0sis, as I have the same question. The point is that the rubber hangers were shabby and I get a rattling at around 2000 RPM; constant leaks at the joints, even after retightening. If I did not get rid of it I would take some pics for you.
Believe me, it is crappy, as I would not have paid $900 4/5 months ago and then turn around and junked it; just last week.
Should have paid the additional $300/$400 for tig welded flanges; which is the way to go.
