Default Intakes

Is there any kind of consensus on the intake situation? It seems a lot of people prefer the stock airbox for "ram air" effect. It would seem then that maybe a K&N panel filter would be a good cheap upgrade.

But, the CAI, especially the Nismo one, claim a decent power gain. You would think Nismo would not offer a product like an intake that has not been tested and found to be superior over stock.

Any thoughts?

um, there are a ton of threads on this. each has thier own opinion on which intake is the best, which is the worst, etc, etc. My suggestion is go by the threads, read them, and make your choice. Just know that the AEM and Nismo are basically the same thing.

Had the Injen CAI until reading some of the recent problems i.e., RPM fluctuation). Re-installed OEM and used K&N Panel Filter. Awesome, no RPM drop and no worries. Excelleration improved at low end.

I installed my popcharger last night and it is noticeable difference. Safe and effective, no adverse effects. I'm happy with it.

It seems like what is making the most power on the 350z's is the JWT pop charger. It goes on the end of the stock intake tube (which all the G35 guys are buying to make power on their car so its got to be good) and then puts a HUGE blue filter and heat shield around the filter.

JWT Pop Charger $120

I think the Injen RD Intake is making more power than the JWT Pop Charger. I just installed my Injen after owning an AEM and I am very happy with the Injen. No RPM issues (which is usually attributed to a MAF sensor that was oiled up by either a new filter or someone's greasy hands as I heard from the dealer). Fits perfectly. Looks good. All I need to make is a better heat shield and I'll be set.

BJ, do you have high resolution shots of your racecar in action and in the pits?

Please send me some if you do.

I have the JWT Popcharger. It was my first mod and I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Easy installation, produced by a company with a ton of experience, looks good, uses the stock pipe (which many say cannot be improved upon), sounds great and was not overly expensive.

I won't say it is the best of all the intakes because I haven't tried them all. I will say it is an intake that I feel was worth the money and does what I expected it to do.

My idle is still going crazy with the JWT. I have reset it 3 times now. I guess its the open filter. Custom air box design has started. I anticipate my prototype by the first week in Jan.

You seeing the same not so "idle" idle, FLY?

No before I started my car I reset the ECU and also performed the throttle position and idle position resets. The car actually idles smoother now than before I had the intake! Anyways, don't you have the TS ECU? Did I read something about not being able to reset effectively after they flash it?

That car is nice. Some high res shots would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to get off topic.

Can you explain how you reset the ECU and perform throttle and idle position resets? Is it necessary before installing the pop charger? Thx!
