Preventing the CEL by not installing the test pipe is not the answer I'm looking for. That like believing abstinence is the best answer for teen pregnancy. It'll work but is just not gonna happen.

Tune is the best answer. Most of the tuning options out there can eliminate the CEL for the low catalyst efficency (p0420) that comes from test pipes or other forms of catalytic converter removal. It's a for sure fix, and you will most likely pick up a little power in the process, which can't hurt either.

Also, on the ealier cars, (non-HR) they tend to be less sensative. My HR has given me a CEL with two different pairs of test pipes, both with some sort of fooler design (one had the J pipe extension, the other had a straight one). Lots of the DE guys can get away with it just fine with enough extensions to the anti-fouler.
