I installed the pipe 2 days ago and it's making a cheap ricer buzzing sound.

Shifting from 1500 - 3000 1st to 4th.

Fast rev around 2000 - 3000 rpm

- Not coming near the pipes or motor
- Triple checked all nuts and bolts
- Re-tq the next following day
- Bent the heat shield on the driver side
- Cut that small bolt on the driver side
- Removed driver side heat shield (1 bolt will not screw)


I did some diagnose today it sounds like it's coming around the mid area to rear.

I will post a video in a bit on how it sounds like.

Please post any suggestions.

 

I'm getting the same thing in the same RPM ranges.

People are telling me it's just the rasp that comes with test pipes.

I also heard that version 2 of the ART pipes has less rasp.

But, I'd like to find out if something can be done about this!

 

$500+ on test pipes that buzz and rasp? that sucks

 

I have the Version 2 the one with the round end. I don't mind the little rasp, but the buzzing sound (like something metal is hitting) makes the car sounds like a ricer.


Also the reason why I got this $500+ pipe because I heard awesome reviews and it sounds great.

Taking off the exhaust at the moment, hopefully I can pin point the problem.

 

My regular test pipes have always made that noise, both sets (Different brands), with stock or aftermarket exhaust. I was under the impression that the ART pipes got rid of it, that's what made them worth while. I guess not.

 

UPDATE:

I removed the cat-back exhuast = no more metal buzzing sound. One of the cat back bolt snapped off.

Verdict: Loose screw or the cat-back itself.

The car sounds so freaking mean now. Its going to be like this until I get the Bassani.

Rubicant try removing the exhaust and see if the fixes your problem.

 

The car is just too loud with the test pipes and no muffler. I ran mine like that for a couple days after I put the pipes back on but I had to put the exhaust back together, couldn't take the noise on a daily basis.

Does sound very awesome at WOT though.

 

^ agree. I have yet to drive the car in the freeway and the drive to work should be fun. Plus I have the whole trunk gutted (Waiting on the sound deadening to come in). But, this sounds way better 20 mins ago.

 

Great to see that you found the culprit of the problem. Nothing worse than figuring out gremlins.

 

You didn't just seriously suggest someone to fix their rasp by removing their exhaust entirely did you?

You should just bring some refreshments for the local police tomorrow morning because you're going to be pulled over

 

wait, op and rubicon, are you guys running the art pipes with stock exhaust? Thats prob why its rasping/buzzing??

What I meant for fix is mainly to diagnose this issue. In my case, by removing the exhaust fixed the problem. It wasn't a rasp I was having, it was a buzzing sound like a heatshield is rubbing somwhere in the rear. The solution to this is to replace the axle-back or get a full exhaust (cat-back).

I live in the motor-city, we can drive an open header if we liked to and not have any issues

 

Im having the same issue and only occasionaly, no rasp more a metal hitting or rubbing, its more frequent or noticeable when i have the a/c on. They're the V2 and running bassani exhaust.

 

That doesn't sound promising. I was just thinking of ordering Bassani tonight.

 

Gotcha, I was having an issue with my HFC's being slightly shorter than OEM cats and it was causing my exhaust to push into a piece of the chassis and it created the most incessant buzzing that it was driving me crazy

You might want to try and cutdown the heat shield to see if that helps, it might also be rubbing somewhere else

 

Mine's making a similar sound, but I got ART Pipes + Shockwave TDX2. My sound / popping rattle is coming from the ART pipes however. I can feel the slight vibration/popping it near the foot/pedal area.

 

Check the heatshield on the driver side and make sure there is enough clearance between the ART pipe and HS. Also, did you cut that one bolt out? (driver side area)

 

You wont regret the bassani, im about 80% sure my issue has to do with the heatshield drivers side, theres evidence of rubbing judt havent had time to mess with it

 

^^if you look through the art v2 thread, it says there is a bolt near the driver side heat shield that you NEED to shave off a couple inches to prevent this buzz/noise. Might be that

 

I did shave it off, that part has plenty clearance. It looks like the actual heatshield is rubbing at the section where the pipe angles up to reach the header, im thinking of cutting or removing the heatshield.
