Muffler delete sounds pretty good. I had a custom y-pipe made and I love it. Sounds deep and aggressive.

For my turbo setup I ran 3" nismo exhaust cut off muffler and welded a tip on. That sounds good. Then cut off resonator and welded in straight pipe...that sounded like complete horse shiyit. So welded to resonator back on and sounds good now.

More on this...
Is your objective sound or performance? Its amazing how many guys
see the "sound" as a priority even if power is lost.I guess because louder
means faster?
I've posted this before.Exhaust systems are just that.
They are systems to efficently remove the exhaust from the engine.
Many times when you just piece something together to make it
"sound good",you lose power.Of course, the objective IMO is to do both,
power +sound+.The OEM Z system does a pretty good job.A aftermarket
that was engineered for the Z like the Nismo and others improves on
OEM.An addition of HFC's or test pipes plus a tune makes the investment even sweeter.

Muffler Delete sounds better and doesn't have any rasp to it at all. Whereas the resonator delete, sounds like a Honda with rasp like crazy!! MD>RD

This is true. I have heard the muffler delete in person and it sounds better than 80% of the aftermarket exhausts I've heard. It's easy to do and cheap. If your going to be really cheap just unbolt the muffler. You'll get made fun of on the forum and to the trained eye, but on the road everyone will love it.

+1

Most are quick to pass judgement, but stock exhaust with the resonator delete is a great exhaust note!

Resonator (middle) delete gives rasp-tastic, rear muffler delete gives loudness. It also brings reasonably obnoxious boom as well

Ran this for a couple months! Nothing but compliments...

just to make sure everyone is one the same page....

^^^

In the picture above it's marked with blue...that is the resonator.

Rasp is only on start up...a couple minutes in to warm up it's perfect.

It seems to depend on the way the rear muffler delete is performed, mine was straight through pipes in the OEM unit, but boom

put washers between the muffler and the bolt. making a small space.
im running mine like that and it sounds good. cost me like 3 bucks in washers lol budget exhaust. sure an aftermarket might sound better( to some people) and give u power. but if u just want sound. thatll do the trick

I have a borla with the resonators deleted. Lots of rasp at WOT which I hate, but otherwise has a mean growl to it.

So basically, you're driving around with an exhaust leak?

Cheap *** motherf*cker...

Yeah, the washers are one way of making it louder, but the above poster is correct, and unfortunately it does sound like an exhaust leak when you're around the car and not on film.

I made a simple turndown to bolt onto my tanabe in place of the muffler for track usage, and i've run it on the stock system as well which has a slightly different resonator. Both sounded amazing, as long as you have the stock cats in the car. With test pipes, the car is just ungodly loud without the muffler, way too much to daily it with.

So, all stock exhaust? Sure, leave the muffler off. I'd recommend a simple 3" 90 degree bend with a flange to make a turndown and keep the exhaust off your rear bumber and stuff under the car, as the mid-pipe outlet kinda points into the rear left corner of the bumper.
