How many people are running only a single pipe for your exhaust system?
Similiar to Wicked4u2c, Skidazzle and some others how many of you are running one pipe from the cats back? I might be trying something new and would like some impressions. I might be selling my 2 month old Tanabe also...we'll see.
Edit: List any pro's and con's please
Thanks,
Jeff

I have the Ultimate Racing Y-Pipe connected to a 3 inch mid pipe to the HKS Carbon/Titanium Muffler. It will look fine on your Brick. I have a SB and you cannot really see where the other tip used to be. I love the looks and the sound. There is also an increase in throttle response.

Noise might be a marketing factor, just a thought. I don't think their's any sense in argueing that the under body isn't plumbed with true dual piping in mind. I can see doing single pipe when you pay carefull attention to what Y-pipe you use. I see lot's of Y-pipe design's that use merge collector's that stink or the collector itself merges to 3", fine for FI, but to large for NA applications. Also, any single pipe system needs to not have the OEM systems crimp bends, mandrel all the way.

You won't have a loss anywhere with a 3 inch single pipe. I have dual 2.5's which is a tiny bit less than a 5 inch single pipe. The only noticeable difference was 4 tenths in the 1/4 mile faster.

I think the big difference is duals are more American oriented sort of tradition/muscle car era thinking. You can acheive the same results for any amount of street car power with a large single exhaust. Anything making a lot of power, ie race cars, are running open headers anyways. So much for needing backpressure for making power.
i would love to have a singel hks carbon exhaust! i p/med skidazel, abut his shop making another in the future but no responce yet? MCopare how much did your y pipe/exhaust setup run you if you dont mind me asking??? are you F/I? or is 3in good for N/A? ive already gone through 2 exhaust setups! this might be 3!?!?!

You can't look at the combined diameter of twin 2.5" pipes and say, hey thats 5" total diameter. Flow dynamics doesn't work that way. A rightly engineered 2.5" system will produce a better dyno than a like 3" system on a NA Z.
That is exactly correct. The 3 inch pipe is perfect for FI but ok for NA. I have not "really" experienced any loss in power but I have not been to a dyno or the quarter mile to be able to tell. I plan on going TT in the spring so I figured I would get the exhaust knocked out. I will post pics this afternoon. I got the Ultimate Racing Y-Pipe from Z-1 Performance for around $450 shipped. I had an exhaust shop make me a 3 inch mid-pipe and install for around $100. I purchased the HKS Carbon/Ti muffler from a private seller on this site for around $250.
It sounds perfect...deep humm at start up but screams at wot. Definitely a head turner if you are in to that. Wheels break loose much easier now....probably a gain of about 10 rwhp to 15rwhp at the top end.
