Default Odd Buzz From Rt Cats

INSTALLED RT CATS WITH STOCK EXHAUST. THERE IS A ODD BUZZING OR METAL SOUND COMING FROM THE EXHAUST OR RT CATS. I'VE CHECKED CLEARANCE IN EVERY AREA OF THE EXHAUST, INSTALLED THE SHIMS ON CROSSMEMBER. IT IS NOT HITTING OR RUBBING ANYWHERE. SITTING STILL YOU FLIP THE THROTTLE UP TO 25OO RPM, AS THE R'S COME DOWN YOU HERE THE BUZZING OR METAL SOUND. WHEN DRIVING, THE BUZZ IS AT 4300 RPM TO REDLINE. ANYBODY WITH AFTERMARKET CATS HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS? HELP PLEASE.....

Almost sounds like the problem people have with test pipes....hmm I guess double check all the bolts twice.

nah the problems with test pipes does not continue to redline. it is localized usually between 3 and 4k rpm. it sounds like you have a loose bolt somewhere.

They asking you to turn off the CAPS lock. People on the net don't like CAPS and they think that you are yelling and it's not polite .

if your getting a buzz check and make sure your not leaking from the flanges. They could be warped which no matter how hard they are tighten down it will still leak. feel for air coming out from the flanges and yes keeping it in caps lock means your screaming so please take it off

I suspect that it's either an exhaust leak as mentioned already, or you have some tension on your Y-pipe and the buzzing is actually coming from the flex sections in your Y. I would recommend loosening the bolts that mate up to your Y-pipe and move the pipes around slightly allowing them to "relax". Then tighten everything up again and hopefully the buzzing will be gone. Good luck!

Hmm... I get the same thing with the RT cats w/ Nismo exhaust. A localized buzz between 3500-4000 RPMs. Doesn't exist above and below, and only prominent in the RPM band stated while in WOT. What is causing it for the test pipes? Resonance? Or rubbing and/or leak?

Thanks for the help guys...... I will do just that "TODAY". I don't think have a leak but I guest it is worth checking agin. This should be a very simple installation. I will let you all know if this corrects the problem. Thanks!

I HAD the same problem. A vibration at 4k rpm's. I purchased my RT cats from Performance Nissan. I installed one shim on each bolt as instructed, it vibrated. I then doubled up the shims on the front bolts that gave them a little more space. No more vibration, try that.

Good Luck!

I just had my Nismo Exhaust & Rt Cats installed too with the same problem. Did you get more shims from Jason/Performance Nissan?

No! I didn't use the shims on the rear most bolts. I just put 2 each on the front bolts. Works fine.

Good Luck...
