I'm thinking I should have gone with stepped, too

I still haven't even installed mine...too busy with house renovations.

I talked to PPE directly and I forget his name, but the main guy that came up with these designed the stepped with the HR's in mind. The non stepped came from Denchan with a nonrev DE. These were basically designed for the HR and then made to fit the DE. He doesn't recommend the non stepped for HR's but will make them for you if you really want them.

True statement I guess you talked to Paul. I've had mine installed for over a yr with no issues.

Default Decibel level

Here’s my question, for those of you that have swapped shorties and straight pipe or ART pipe for the long tube, are they any louder. I’m getting ready to go one way or the other and understand that performance wise the long tube have a slight edge but I’m concerned with the overall decibel level. I understand that they are louder than stock but how due the two options compare. Tracks are getting more and more restrictive on the decibel level and I don’t want that to be an issue. Has any one done a decibel reading comparing the two options?

Don't go longtubes then! I havent gone WOT fully yet, but after 3-4k it's way louder than my test pipe stetup!

I know doesn't help much, but Depending on y-pipe back you may be able to tone it done a bit.

What's your current setup?

Yes it will be louder, but as Kingsbaby said it depends on your exhaust setup. If you have space to add resonators you can tone it down a little.

I will post a vid in a day or so comparing my setup to a Z with stock manifolds non resonated test pipes and my old exhaust invidia Gemini with MF x pipe.

My setup at the time of the vid was non resonated x, 2 12in hushpower mufflers to a IPL muffler.

New setup is MF resonated X, 2 18in hushpower mufflers to the IPL it's quieter now. I lost a couple hp/tq due to the merge now being further back.

Just order the PPE LTH for my HR. I was lucky enough to order before the price jump. I wish I would have bought these when groupbuy was available. Oh well, I still got a good deal. I am still waiting for my LTH to ship. My setup will be all out performance, LTH and full Tomei titanium y-pipe and exhaust single exist setup. Hey guys, any chance someone will write a thread DIY LTH installation for the 350Z. If not, what is your advise for easy tackle OEM headers removal and cats, with detailing steps.

Thanks for the link, bmyles. Has anyone try to remove the six nuts of on the exhaust manifolds and carefully take them out from the bottom while the cats or test pipes still attached? Also, how well do PPE lth fit when is installed? Any clearance issues or rubbing with fuel lines like the nismo headers did? I am just trying to get some head up advise before I tackle this bastard removal and installation.

there's answers you can find in this thread. and I also wrote down some stuff that I encountered during my installation. it's under the DIY section.

don't understand why you want to take the manifolds out with the TP/cats still attached.................

and it's definitely louder. I went from oem with cats to PPE. night and day difference in terms of sound. it sounds........ loud and mean, kinda like a V8....... and you can forget about keeping the VQ sound. I have a MD exhaust fwiw.
