Angry Header Installion Problems

Hey guys,

Ive tried and searched and found very little on this subject

I looking to put new headers on my 2006 base and wanted to know if the rumors are true

First: 350z headers are thee most pain in the @$$ mod to DIY.

Second: If you get cheap ones, they will crack and youll have exhaust leaks like a vegas hooker

Third:Youll have to keep changing gaskets and get more exhaust leaks

These are a few thing I have heard and wanted to know how legit these claims are.

Thansk for your input (flaming encouraged)

I wouldn't do it without a lift. I got lucky and had someone offer to install for $200 on their lift. Their knuckles got scraped all to **** and they said they would never do another set.

For headers: Pit > Lift

and yes most of those rumors are true.

Pits are much better since you have access to both the top and bottom of the engine but thats stating the obvious.

Have someone install your headers, they already have all the tools needed and have probably done it many times before. If you do it yourself, just don't get too pissed off!

So... If I buy some headers from ebay for like, 100 bucks. Or some from Craigslist.... Am I for sure going to have leaks? I just have hard time justifying buying $800 headers..

It's all about air flow and build quality. Cheap ebay headers probably don't have good flow designs and they would definitely have bad welds. On the other hand, with expensive headers you're getting good welds, better quality metals, but also paying to have the name.

why buy them at all? Unless they are long tube you don't stand to gain much if anything.

again, what do you look to gain? they do very very little for NA cars in short tube.
If you just want a part to buy w your next paycheck.. these should not be the part.

All your remarks are pretty much true.
IMO,unless you are FI,headers are a waste.
Even with well made/fit headers like the Nismo's
I have, they are not worth the expense and labor
to put e'm on a N/A car.
I'm curious, what other mods do you have on your engine?

No point in getting long tubes since the gains are most likely form the cat delete. Just stick with the oem headers and get test pipes

I currently have a Stillen intake, test pipes and a HKS Duel Exhaust.

I see your point. I want to stay NA for a while until the cars paid for. I dont feel like blowing the motor just yet.

What would you recommend I get next?

my suggestion would be to pay for an hpde or similar event or put it towards paying off your car instead of buying a bunch of parts for your car that wont improve performance -unless you have a well planned long term design with complimentary, high quality parts and a good tune.

Thanks for the input. Looks like my Z modding days are over.

Op, I have DC sports headers on my car. I've had them on for nearly 4 years. Never any problems and I love the way they sound. They're a bit more pricy than $100 but like the others have stated, you get what you pay for. Also like the others said, it IS a pain in the @SS install. Get some buddies, a lift or pit, a nice evening (maybe a few beers to numb the pain when you bust your knuckles) and get to wrenching.

Since you're running a 2006, look into the Motordyne MREV2 Manifold. Here is a link to a thread discussing it. https://my350z.com/forum/intake-exha...-using-it.html

Also, if you have your stock airbox, many on the forum would advise going back to it with a drop in filter. If you don't want to go back to it, sell it to me
