If you want the real stuff that will really help (pb, liquid wrench etc. are ok) then grab some Kroil, it acts much more effectively and very worth it to have in your toolbox.

I've added the sound comparison between the normal TDX2 and the TDX2 with the MD HFC section.

do you guys know how loud the tdx2 is with stock cats? What exhaust is it comparable with in terms of loudness? Deciding if I should run it with hfc/art pipes, or just stock cats. I don't want a super loud exhaust. I currently have nismo and its a tad too quiet.

I heard its up there with HKS as for loudness. Mine is loud and I haven't installed my art. Probably wont until I go turbo. I would stick with Nismo if loud is not your thing.

Personally, the motordyne TDX2 with stock cats is MUCH louder than an HKS. The HKS is very quiet for an aftermarket exhaust.

It's not too loud IMO with ART pipes, they don't really increase the volume like regular TP's.

With stock cats, i think it will be a pretty respectable system volume-wise. Unless you're on it, it's a quiet exhaust anyway, which allows it to be my daily driver.

Hmmm I see. I don't mind loud, I just don't want it to be single exhaust loud. Ive had the hks before, with and without test pipes, that wasn't loud at all. So looks like it would be at a decent sound level with stock cats then

IMHO with all motordyne exhausts, its only really loud when you get on it. otherwise its pretty tame

OP, where did you order the exhaust from? I want the hfc midpipe but the vendors I contacted are telling me I can't do that, it only comes in one form. Are they right or just have no clue? Thanks

Also, did you notice a big difference with the regular midpipe and hfc midpipe? In the video it sounds just as loud, but a higher pitched sound with the hfc.

I got it directly from Motordyne, give them a call.

The sound I think might might not be that different. The TDX2 has a very nice sound in the 2-3k rpm range, the hfc very slightly takes a small amount of that away at the high pitch end. It really is a minimal difference that I noticed.

Is it just a tone difference or decibel level difference? If there isnt much difference, then Id rather not spend the extra 200 for them.

There is a difference in db, not much, but there is, it's slightly less 'harsh' with the HFC.

I am planning on getting this exhaust system and possibly the ART pipes. If I get the optional HFC (is there an extra cost for these instead of the regular pipes?) do you think I will have an issue with passing emissions in CA? Have you had any issues with emissions testing? I know CA is stricter than most states. Is it worth getting the ART pipes as far as power gaines?

You live in CA..... imma advise you against test pipes (ART in this case) as u guys probably use sniffers during emissions testing. Your car will pass other parts of emissions testing as far as not throwing a SES/CEL light, but it's the sniffer part that'll get ya. Your other option is to swap to stock cats and do emissions and swap back to ART after, but that's just PITA.

Sorry i didn't see your question earlier.

Yes, ART pipes give power gains similar to test pipes, but they're better than test pipes; test pipes are usually great gains except for the low revs, where it actually loses Vs cats, in the case of the ART pipes, it stops the loss as well as keeping the noise down. You end up with a deeper tone too.

If you've got tailpipe 'sniffers' then you usually won't pass with HFC's, they're a $200 option for new mid pipes from Motordyne.

wow nice write up. thanks for suggesting it in the PM.

Couple things:

doesn't adding the HFC in the midpipes kinda negate having the ART TP? haha

secondly, ever think about tucking the bumper in like those with the HKS do since they're about the same?

The HFC's in *this* case have several advantages which mean they don't wipe out the benefits of the ART pipes.

Firstly, moving the cats away from the engine does help, my tuner confirmed this.
Secondly, they're lower cell count than stock and they're now in a collective area of 6 inches, providing a very low restriction, as i mentioned, only around 2HP difference due to these two points.

Not sure on the bumper tuck, as good as the Whiteline bushing is, it's also bright yellow, i'm not sure how much that will show.
I might take a look at this when summer comes, we'll see
