Aloha from Hawaii, i usually dont post much as there is so much information on everything. Tis forum has given me so much information i thought i would give back to the community and post my findings.
This is on the DE motor but in my opinion the stock intake box is extremely well designed and based on other peoples threads, the VQ is quite sensitive and many have gotten better engine response when they change back to the stock intake versus aftermarket ones.
Anyway im simply using just a drop in K&N fiter and decided to make a simple duct to try bring colder air. I dont like the titek one as that can easily bring in water when its raining especially on the freeway plus i dont like how its exposed on the bumper, just my personal taste.
So theres another thread where someone has done the same thing but costed him almost $100 and it look quite sloppy, especially by the front bumper. My total cost for everything was $18, with tax.

So anyway go to city mill or your local hardware store and look for those aluminum air conditioner vents. They are also used on household dryers to vent the heat. It can expand a lot to be super long so juts get the shortest one that has a 3" opening. In that same area look for the black plastic attachment that has a 3" hole and become a rectangular piece roughly 2.75" length and 3.5" height OR anything close to that. Thats the only size city mill had, the bigger this rectangular opening, the more air it can bring in.
Go home and take off your front bumper, for those that are experienced, front bumper can be taken off in 15 min. After taking it off, you will see a black square piece on the left and right, it looks like those scoop air but doesnt seem to go anywhere. They have 3 clips that hold the top partinto the aluminum support brace (see pics). Your going to utilize 2 of those 3 clips if they arent brittle and never broke into small pieces.
Wedge the aluminum vent you bought into the stock intake opening, run that vent to the front bumper where you removed that black plastic piece i just mentioned.
The black 3" adaptor you just bought will secure using the two of the 3 holes. Cut the aluminum vent to length and make 2 holes into the black plastic vent adaptor you just bought. Attach the aluminum vent to the adaptor and secure using the 2 plastic clips. Done!
I think it took me longer to type this on my ipad than it did for this small upgrade.
"Water will get in!" Psh yeah right, look at the pics, water is extemely unlikely to get into there as its recessed back behind the bumper but hey it might if its flooding but ill be at home drinking some cocoa if it is flooding . Rocks, debris, extremely unlikely but possible, the grill should help to prevent most trash or large items. Plus the tube has a near 90 degree bend then another plus its upwards.
My bumper is just hanging as its off right now and just resting as i wait for my headlight chrome pieces to come back from the shop. Might i add, changing thr 4 amber leds is pretty easy and costed me $5 but of course u need to know how to solder. Anyhow great alternative as my shine bumper didnt come with the nismo V2 ducts. See pics, i even attach receipt with item numbers to make it easier for you guys. Im tired of typing but wanted to be detailed to help others.
Oh and maybe a hose clamp, so add an extra $1 to the total if you want but the aluminum vent is extremely flush on the black plastic adaptor. Hope this helps.

It's somewhat a single longtube intake

However being the reverse aeronautical scientist that I am....you'll noticed similar technology on several cars...may that be a sign it's useful ?

I would get a black hose to take to one step down from "ricer level looking"

Are you guys kidding? I made 18 hp at the wheels! thats $1 a horsepower, this is a huge performance upgrade mod! Cant believe nobody thought of it. I gotta go find that Dyno chart! stay tuned!

Impossible. On a dyno you couldn't even see gains. Maybe going down the highway at 100mph you could pick up 2-3hp

There's nothing wrong with this mod. Good for you. People complain if someone pays $18 for homemade or $1,500 for the Gruppe-M intake; which does the same thing.

anyone who pays $1500 for something like this is plain retarded and needs to go play on train tracks, even at 18 bucks its meh and not worth the time this ranks up there with lightweight pulleys in almost no benefit the only difference is this at least dosnt destroy your engine.

It only doesn't destroy the engine up until he hits a puddle of water since he has no filter on that thing.

Probably because that would never happen. He only made a channel for air to travel, there is no air being sucked; just pushed. Even so, it would take massive amounts of suction to pull water up a 3" hose, through the air filter and into the engine.

Oh wow, didn't even notice he left the stock box. I just don't see a huge point to this but at least it isn't damaging the engine with the filter in place still.

Just a stock intake box with a great cold air supply. If this is on an 06 rev up box, this would actually be an almost perfect intake.

if my 6766 turbo dosnt suck water into the filter drawing from the wheel well in the downpours of hawaii theres no way that thing is going to draw water in. water is very heavy, because of that it has to be very finely atomized to travel with the air. if that happens its just going to act like water injection. pretty much have to dump water directly into the engine to cause any damage because any bend at all is going to stop the water and make it fall out of what ever tiny amount of suspension it might be in.
