Default Possible Muffler Switch Out

So over the weekend, I was being stupid and tinkering around with my car (as I'm sure plenty of people have done). Well, I tried to do some stuff with my exhaust, specifically the joint at the back of the exhaust, right at the rear muffler, and I broke the 2 studs in the pipe (The ones welded into one of the pipes, and that holds a grounding wire for something).

Needless to say, I either want to go to a Midas to get them to drill out the old studs and put in new ones to get my stock exhaust back to normal, or I "could" use this as a time to A. Get an aftermarket muffler put on or B. Take off the rear muffler and just straight pipe it after the muffler in the middle of the car.

I have tried to find sound clips of straight pipes online, but most are poor quality videos and most of the time videos don't capture the real sound anyways.

So my question is: Are straight pipes too loud/raspy to get? I would love a more aggressive/meaner sound, and am NOT concerned too badly about performance. Eventually I will get myself a full catback exhaust, but at this time, I just bought some parts and am not wanting to shell out that kind of money.

Or is it better to go with an aftermarket muffler to replace my current one?

Thanks for your time!

Dumb question, but I need to ask to learn, is a "muffler tip" the same as a full muffler?

Like if I were to go to Borla's website, and click on Mufflers, are those considered muffler tips?

And I agree with you, I will NOT sound like some piece of civic rolling down the road. But that's why I asked before I did anything I wasn't experienced with lol.

From your post, sounds like you are talking about the REAR muffler(sits horizontal).Of course, saving up to do it right--get a quality aftermarket system is the answer.I'd thing since you are tight for funds, you could get
the thing welded up,at least fix what you screwed up.Straights are gonna be loud&raspy.I'd just try to fix it even though it will look like s(it.

Then it's settled. Planning a trip to Midas or somewhere similar this Saturday to simply get the old studs taken out, and get new ones put in.

The muffler is still there, in fact, EVERY thing works as it is supposed to (thanks to a c clamp keeping the 2 pipes from rattling!). The studs simply broke off after it connected the 2 pipes, and thought this might be a good excuse for a little work done.

But after 2 posts of saying just save a little for a real exhaust, I'm just gonna get it fixed and wait. Then all I have to do is decide between Nismo or Borla for the sound I like....lol, and that's a whole other discussion.

Thanks guys! Case closed!

You are only choosing between Nismo and Borla...sounds reasonable

isn't there a muffler that bolts right up to the stock midpipe? I thought maybe Greddy makes it or something.

If so that is a good choice as well if you can't afford a full cat-back.

Yes, there's a muffler in the middle, but that wasn't the part of the exhaust that I goofed up. I was more concerned about the rear one, but it's not even that big of a deal to get those studs replaced/fixed.

I was just looking for an excuse to get a slight mod when I should've been thinking of the big picture lol

Okay the cat-back is made up of 3 parts, y pipe, midpipe, and muffler. As I already said, the muffler, or as you call it, the rear one, I believe has aftermarket replacements that bolt right up. I think Greddy has one.
