Should I straight pipe or go high flow cats?
So I have a 2003 350 with around 108k miles. It has a good amount of modifications especially to the exhaust but during recent drives I have been smelling a faint smell of rotten-eggs which is a tell-tail sign that my cats are on their last leg. They are original stock.
Being that I will be heading up to college in about a month my driving will significantly decrease under around the ~3000 miles/per year mark that means you are exempt from emissions testing in Pennsylvania. (correct me if I'm wrong)
Going with straight pipes would save me a lot of money and change the sound, in a good way or bad way, I do not know. I currently love the sound of my exhaust and am hopeful that if I do straight pipe that it doesn't F it all up.
Second option is high flow cats. Costing upwards of $350 plus install its a considerable investment for a will-be college freshman who needs all the money he can get, but I wouldn't have to worry about going over 3000 miles every year and it might give me more power than the straight pipes?
Also if it says that my next emissions test is due in January of 2014, if I drive under 3000 miles this year will I still need another test in 2014?
If anyone knows a lot about straight piping and would like to tell me their experiences with the noise and power gains I'd greatly appreciate.
I'm open to everyone's opinion on this matter as I'll take all the advice I can get.
Thanks a lot!

They still will do a visual inspection in pa. Some shops will let it slide, others won't. As long as you aren't throwing codes, you will pass the OBDII test.
Be prepared for your car to be ungodly loud with test pipes and a true straight piped exhaust.
