Default Single exhaust vs dual exhaust

Before anyone says anything I searched... A lot. My question is more specific than results I was getting. I just got test pipes and i have a nismo so I have the nismo muffler. Which leads to my question... If I just replace the y pipe with an aftermarket performance one will I see similar gains as a cat back true dual exhaust? I dont think a true dual is necessary on a v6. I want to get as much NA power as possible but dont see the point in spending $1200-$1500 on a cat back true dual If I'll see similar gains from a single exhaust. Not to mention weight difference. All input that isnt rude is appreciated. Thanks.

You didn't research enough. Your stock nismo exhaust is a single with a dual muffler, so it's not a true dual.

Continue searching

Well, that was certainly helpful.

Whenever someone recommends searching for useful information this forum, this is the image that comes to mind:

I think you misread what I said. I'm well aware of my current exhaust setup. In short I want to know if I get say a tomei y pipe ($600 new) and put it in and leave my muffler the nismo one will I see comparable gains to a true dual exhaust setup ($1000-1600 new)? Or do I need to make it a single muffler setup (tomei is like $1000+ $600 for y pipe= $1600... as much as a true dual for some reason) as well to get similar gains?

The Y pipe and muffler make or break the exhaust. Y pipe is the most important, the Motordyne XYZPIPE is the best available. Next muffler design, just like any other quiet muffler, some are restrictive , depending on needs , restriction can be a good thing.

For some reason I hate how singles look on the 350Z with the exception of the Nismo. Get the Tomei or AP and call it a day.

For true dual get the HKS or Motordyne, just know a true dual takes away that VQ sound.

I know I'm in the minority here but I think the singles look good (with the rear bumper tucked). I also LOVE the sound of the single exits too.

I already have FI resonated tests pipes do you guys recommend the resonated MD y pipe over the straight pipe y pipe? I'll get that next and eventually get the single muffler from tomei.

Going single isn't going to yield the most HP! Also do you have a goal for which you wanna get to, HP wise? Have you had a baseline dyno done yet? Also single setups a are loud and usual aren't preferred for daily setups.

Plus the xyz resonator option is for the tune of the exhaust and not a difference in power!

Continue to research!

-_-

I know resonators are for sound and not power. I was asking people's opinions if they think I need the resonated xyz pipe if I already have resonated TP's. im probably getting resonated since single exhaust is louder. I already mentioned my goals in 2 posts on this thread. I want to stay NA and gain as much as possible. Id like 300whp+. If youre gonna respond condescendingly atleast read and comprehend what I said before attempting to do so. I read a single exhaust could potentially make more power on the HR while I was continuing to research.

you want to gain power?

Straight pipe it! get rid of all restrictions and make the bends as straight as possible

FI test pipes
XYZ w/resonator
Tomei 3" single

Long tube intakes or K/N drop ins

Tune the above and you'll hit 300 in cool weather (-/+75 degrees) roughly. If you need some examples I reply when I'm on a computer and link to several guys in your area with nismos who have hit that mark NA.

This question is asked everyday, excuse me

Well if your goal is power and you don't care about other factors like how loud your car will sound or care about cel or spewing out harmful toxins in the environment straight pipe it and be done with it. No restrictions for sound or environmental factors so it should result in higher horsepower but I'm not a tuner or anything you'll have to do more research on it. Anything that is resonated or restricted to a certain degree will probably have around the same gains so no cats or mufflers is the way to go if power is your goal Domonic Toretto. Your neighbors will hate you though, and i'm pretty sure it's very illegal in most states. Are you just trying to get to the 300 N/A club? Or are you just doing this for fun?

So for people who live in areas where a catalytic is required, let me ask this question:

Would it be possible to run PPE headers, MD XYZ w/catalytic, and (choice) Tomei/AP muffler?

I'm pretty dedicated to my current setup since this is my DD, but asking in case I might change my mind in the future.
