Default Z Intakes: Stock Vs CAI

Hey guys,
I've been driving my 05 for a year now. Short of a motordyne plenum spacer, the car is bone stock since Ive been refreshing paint and internals.

I've been eyeing the NISMO CAI for a long time and plan to install the NISMO exhaust. But before I drop any cash on an intake I want to determine if there will be any real benefit aside from the sound. Both forum and internet research have yielded scattered mixed reviews. My main concerns are Airflow, heat deflection and not sucking water. Even aluminum sounds less heat eficient than plastic for the intake.

That said, what are you running and what were your results?

I was going to get the Nismo intake but I opted with the K&N drop-ins. Unlike other cars, the Z has a great stock intake design so dumping money into an item that will barely yield any performance difference IMO is not worth it. I would put the money to something else.

for 03-05, in my opinion, the 06 airbox with a k&n filter is best.

Change intake tube and larger MAF housing to go another step forward.

Right. Good thing about the 03-06 airboxes is that they have bolt on maf housings, so you can simply buy a larger maf housing and just bolt it on, where as the HR has the maf housing integrated into the airboxes so its a little harder if you want to do larger housings.

Yeah I've been really eyeing the path of travel as well as parts used and stock seems pretty well optimized. I have a K&N drop in from the Prev Owner. I've never oversized MAF housing but it sounds like you dont want to mess with it without remapping the ECU.

Thanks all

Ya, you'll definitely need to get it tuned pretty soon after putting the larger MAF housing on. I added mine same day I got it tuned, so I don't know well the DE would run...or if you might throw some codes.

IMO, a larger MAF housing should be added to the list must have bolt ons for NA.
