OP just get HFCs for now and get an exhaust down the road when you have the money. HFC with stock exhaust sounds good.

Ive heard a few different setups. I have always preferred mine(because its mine). The AAM single sounds great and looks amazing. Bit of wind noise but a decent in car video:

I'm going to sound like a complete noob here, but hey I am, ummm what is HFC, I tried to research it and all I can find out is that it's a type of option with an exhaust? Also, do I need to do a tune when I install an exhaust system or is that just a recommendation?

High flow cat. If its just a catback there is no reason to tune. You may make more power by tuning, but its not gonna cause issues if you dont.

Nevermind it's a high flow catalytic, so I just keep my exhausts and get a HFC? Any suggestions on where to get a good one for a good price?

PM some vendors on here. They will almost always beat any price you can find online.

You have 2 cats, not just one.

Pretty much any breathing mod will leave you running a bit more lean. Finish up everything, then tune.

Z1 makes great parts. I have nothing but good things to say about the quality as well as customer service. Another option is Berk. It is pretty popular on the Z/G, and I know many people that ran or run Berk with no issues.

What's the 1 state that these aren't allowed in? Also, I don't play on doing any other mods besides the HFC's for at least a year. Is that too long to go without a tune since you said it will run more lean? Also, what are the sizes of most exhaust systems? 2.5" or 3"?

Most systems you'll find, especially dual, will be 2.5 inches. I'm assuming California don't allow those. Virginia will probably have issues with those as well. I wouldnt run HFC until you can get tuned. Its not gonna cause issues instantaneously, and I honestly can't tell you how long it would take to cause issues running lean, but I know it isn't ideal.

I'm in California guys damn it!! Haha I thought I mentioned that in an earlier post.. Okay 2.5" got it. Thanks, so then right now I just want my car to sound a bit meaner without breaking the bank. There's no small mod that you guys would recommend for me? Performance isn't a big issue yet!

A catback made a huge difference on my car as far as sound is concerned. A catback exhaust should do that for you.

California basically bans all aftermarket parts. Doesn't mean you can't do them. Just like tints. Here in NY the limit is 70% and nothing allowed on the windshield besides the top 6 inches, I have 15% all around and the entire windshield 50%. Also no front plate which is illegal. It's all about the risk you want to take. For California if you want to follow the rules make sure whatever you buy is CARB legal, that means that California accepts it.

I think the only CARB legal exhaust is the Nismo exhaust since it came from Nissan. You can look around for one used on the forum. Also if you want to hear what it sounds like on a stock Z check out the link on my sig.

Im 99 percent positive they dont regulate catback systems. You could always look up the carb info or call local authorities and ask.

That nismo sounds clean! Is it a big difference though from stock? Don't the 2008's sound louder than the 2003's anyways? Stock to stock I mean.

Thanks. It is quite a difference from stock. However, it has 0 drone and only gets loud when you get on it. In normal driving it is very tame, which I like. Ive experienced the loud exhausts and yea they are fun, but they do get annoying and they get alot of attention, sometimes from people you don't want, such as the cops.

it doesn't matter in California the size of the piping they don't regulate that. the momentum i have is 3'' from the y pipe...i don't know how big the piping is on motordyne y pipe but I'm sure its about 2.5 if not 3''. the only thing you really need to worry about in California is having cats and making sure the intake is California approved if you have an aftermarket one.
